En lugar de solo ver la computadora como una herramienta para ayudar a los creadores humanos, podríamos verla como una entidad creativa en sí misma. Indeed, the computer is already a canvas, a brush, a musical instrument, and so on. However, we should aim at more ambitious relations between computers and creativity. Rather than just seeing the computer as a tool to help human creators, we could see it as a creative entity in its own right. With this understanding in mind, an operational, and widely accepted, definition of creativity is: «a creative idea is a novel and valuable combination of known ideas». In other words, physical laws, theorems, musical pieces can be generated from a finite set of existing elements and, therefore, creativity is an advanced form of problem solving that involves memory, analogy, learning, and reasoning under constraints, among others, and is therefore possible to replicate by means of computers.

Further information in Eventbrite

Participants:

Ramón López de Mántaras is a Research Professor of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and Director of the Artificial Intelligence Research Institute (IIIA).

Luc De Raedt is a full professor at the Department of Computer Science of the KU Leuven (Belgium)

Han Bin Yoon, cellist of the Chapelle Musicale Reine Elisabeth, will present an introductory performance

The talk will be held in English.

The Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) will offer a drink

This unique talk has been made possible thanks to the collaboration of the Embassy of Spain in Belgium, the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), Instituto Cervantes, KU Leuven and Spanish Scientists in Belgium (CEBE)

Free entry, R.S.V.P. Eventbrite

Martes, 22 de mayo, a las 19:00 horas Tuesday, May 22, 19 h Instituto Cervantes. Av.
