Manuel Arija de la Cuerda a debutat \u00een 2009 cu scurtmetrajul <em>Mavela<\/em>, selec\u021bionat la Austin Fantastic Fest \u0219i la diferite alte festivaluri \u00een Statele Unite \u0219i \u00een Canada. Scurmetrajul s\u0103u <em>La Pi\u00f1ata<\/em> a fost premiat \u00een cadrul Amacort Short Film Festival de la Rimini, Italia, \u00een 2010. Este c\u00e2\u0219tig\u0103tor al Bursei Fullbright pentru regie, la SVA NYC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>S.D.: Ai ales pentru primul t\u0103u lungmetraj un subiect provocator, de multe ori controversat \u2013 religia, \u00eentr-un context inedit, \u00eentr-un cadru suprarealist, dar cu un nivel profund al introspec\u021biei.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>M.A.C.:<\/strong> Tema religiei \u0219i a credin\u021belor poate p\u0103rea preten\u021bioas\u0103, de aceea \u0219i cred c\u0103 exist\u0103 pu\u021bine filme care abordeaz\u0103 acest subiect. Mai ales c\u0103 niciodat\u0103 nu va fi pe placul tuturor. Ne-am \u00eentors mereu la religie pentru a primi r\u0103spunsuri cu privire la umanitate, la cine suntem, spre ce ne \u00eendrept\u0103m, care e sensul existen\u021bei noastre, dar de multe ori r\u0103spunsurile au fost vagi sau misterioase. \u00centr-o anume m\u0103sur\u0103, \u00een prezent rolul religiei l-a luat \u0219tiin\u021ba \u0219i toat\u0103 lumea vrea s\u0103 \u0219tie totul. Gre\u0219eala e s\u0103 crezi c\u0103 asta te va face fericit sau c\u0103 vom avansa. Ideea filmului e c\u0103 nu exist\u0103 un r\u0103spuns clar \u0219i c\u0103 e mai interesant s\u0103 continui s\u0103-\u021bi pui \u00eentreb\u0103ri.&nbsp; Cred c\u0103 atunci c\u00e2nd am r\u0103m\u00e2ne f\u0103r\u0103 \u00eentreb\u0103ri, existen\u021ba ar deveni foarte plictisitoare. \u00cemi dau seama c\u0103 am ales o tem\u0103 controversat\u0103, dar m-am g\u00e2ndit c\u0103 dac\u0103 nu fac asta la primul meu film, \u00eemi va fi imposibil pe viitor, pentru c\u0103 deja de la al doilea film intervin alte aspecte care nu te vor l\u0103sa niciodat\u0103 s\u0103 te exprimi complet liber.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>S.D.: De ce aleg cele dou\u0103 personaje s\u0103 porneasc\u0103 \u00een c\u0103utarea divinit\u0103\u021bii prin metode \u0219tiin\u021bifice?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>M.A.C.:<\/strong> Ne-am bazat mult pe via\u021ba sfin\u021bilor, a c\u0103lug\u0103rilor care se retrag \u00een pustietate, a\u0219tept\u00e2nd ca Dumnezeu s\u0103 le vorbeasc\u0103. Am \u00eencercat s\u0103 lu\u0103m elemente din diferite religii, nu am vrut s\u0103 ne centr\u0103m pe catolicism, ortodoxie etc. Ne-am ferit s\u0103 ridiculiz\u0103m vreo religie, am vrut doar s\u0103 lu\u0103m ni\u0219te simboluri \u0219i s\u0103 le analiz\u0103m \u0219i pe baza lor s\u0103 cre\u0103m cele dou\u0103 personaje care, \u00een esen\u021b\u0103, sunt bune, uneori naive chiar, pure \u00een claustrarea lor. Facem referire la via\u021ba sfin\u021bilor, a martirilor, la cum au fost ei folosi\u021bi drept element pentru a atrage noi credincio\u0219i. Am construit un strat istoric care ne permitea s\u0103 cre\u0103m o senza\u021bie de familiaritate cu religiosul, de\u0219i f\u0103r\u0103 leg\u0103tur\u0103 exact\u0103 cu o anume religie. Avem elemente budiste, medita\u021bia, mesajele de la radio \u00een locul mesajelor divine, pe care personajele le interpreteaz\u0103. Stratului istoric \u00eei ad\u0103ug\u0103m unul suprarealist. Apel\u0103m la multe elemente suprarealiste, ceea ce e complicat pentru public. Dac\u0103 nu oferi un cod familiar, \u00eel pui \u00eentr-o situa\u021bie incomod\u0103, pentru c\u0103 trebuie s\u0103 ra\u021bionalizeze lucruri care nu au o premis\u0103 logic\u0103. E cel mai \u00eendr\u0103zne\u021b pariu pe care \u00eel propune filmul. Ca spectator po\u021bi s\u0103 alegi doar nivelul acesta suprarealist, dar la o analiz\u0103 mai am\u0103nun\u021bit\u0103, \u00ee\u021bi dai seama c\u0103 totul are o baz\u0103 ra\u021bional\u0103. Ne-a interesat mult ideea credin\u021bei, mi se pare unul dintre cele mai interesante aspecte ale fiin\u021bei umane. E cea care ne-a f\u0103cut s\u0103 credem \u00een lucrurile cele mai imposibile. S\u0103 credem c\u0103 putem ajunge pe Lun\u0103, s\u0103 invent\u0103m focul, s\u0103 c\u0103ut\u0103m noi continente. E ceva ce te apropie de universul emo\u021biilor, de credin\u021ba \u00een tine \u00eensu\u021bi, un aspect pe care l-am explorat \u0219i \u00een film. C\u00e2nd personajele \u00eencep s\u0103 cread\u0103 \u00een ele \u00eensele, \u00eenceteaz\u0103 s\u0103 mai utilizeze metode \u0219tiin\u021bifice pentru a g\u0103si r\u0103spunsuri sau nu mai a\u0219teapt\u0103 ca cineva s\u0103 \u00eei contacteze \u0219i iau ei ini\u021biativa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>S.D.: Spiritualitatea se reg\u0103se\u0219te \u00een ei \u00een\u0219i\u0219i.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>M.A.C.:<\/strong> Aceasta este una dintre ipotezele pe care le accentu\u0103m \u00een film: lucrurile \u00een care crezi sunt \u00een tine \u00eensu\u021bi \u0219i trebuie s\u0103 ajungi la tine pentru a te conecta cu ele, nu trebuie s\u0103 \u021bi le dea altcineva. Ceea ce te face s\u0103 evoluezi este chiar imposibilitatea de a g\u0103si r\u0103spunsurile la tot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>S.D.: Cei doi par a fi primii oameni ai unei noi ordini.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>M.A.C.:<\/strong> Da, a\u0219a i-am g\u00e2ndit. Ei au o metod\u0103, iar un soi de sect\u0103 religioas\u0103 profit\u0103 \u0219i le ofer\u0103 ni\u0219te instrumente tehnologice. \u0218i au \u00eencredere \u00een aceast\u0103 inteligen\u021b\u0103 artificial\u0103 despre care ei cred c\u0103 decide totul \u0219i care le poate oferi r\u0103spunsul la c\u0103ut\u0103rile lor. Sunt ni\u0219te pionieri al unei noi lumi, la final te ata\u0219ezi de ei, de puritatea lor. Merg dincolo de inocen\u021b\u0103, tr\u0103iesc \u00eentr-o lume care nu e corupt\u0103 de scheme. Trec chiar printr-o criz\u0103 c\u00e2nd descoper\u0103, \u00een \u00eenc\u0103perea unde sunt \u00eenchi\u0219i, o revist\u0103 de divertisment, care nu avea nici o leg\u0103tur\u0103 cu felul \u00een care \u00ee\u0219i imaginau ei totul \u0219i simt c\u0103 li se pr\u0103bu\u0219e\u0219te lumea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>S.D.: Cum vezi tu spiritualul \u00een secolul nostru?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>M.A.C.:<\/strong> Problema pe care o v\u0103d eu e c\u0103 \u00eencerc\u0103m s\u0103 ne raport\u0103m la spiritual ca la ceva de unde putem ob\u021bine toate r\u0103spunsurile \u0219i, \u00een acela\u0219i timp, dedic\u0103m din ce \u00een ce mai pu\u021bin timp reflec\u021biei. To\u021bi vor un r\u0103spuns rapid, f\u0103r\u0103 s\u0103 fie nevoi\u021bi s\u0103 reflecteze asupra lui. Inclusiv felul \u00een care e tratat religiosul \u00een filme mi se pare de suprafa\u021b\u0103, nu te face s\u0103 te opre\u0219ti \u0219i s\u0103 analizezi, ci treci mai departe. Pare c\u0103 tehnologia a \u00eenlocuit religiile, felul \u00een care lumea caut\u0103 revela\u021biile \u00een tehnologie.
