Students in our creative writing course published a few weeks ago the sixth installment of La letra en blanco series.

Patricia García , PhD in Comparative Literature at Dublin City University is the teacher of this course. She presents this issue in her blog, also dedicated to creative writing (in Spanish).

In this sixth edition of the magazine- she says- we present the selection our students have done of their work in creative writing in Spanish. Again, if you find some phrases a little bit “exotic”, it’s because we decided to change as little as possible the style of each author.

The theme of this volume is humor. We tried to laugh a thousand ways, we invented greguerías using Ramón Gómez de la Serna’s surrealist associations, we have written instructions for actions that do not need instructions, following the example of Julio Cortázar , we read fables and stories by Augusto Monterroso, humor and horror micro-stories by Patricia Esteban Erles and contemporary fairy tales by Quim Monzó. There have also been atypical discourses on Spanish language, such as the one by Gabriel García Márquez during the First International Congress of the Spanish Language ( 1997) , satirical poetry by Góngora and Quevedo, and mermaids and ghosts (La sirena varada, by Alejandro Casona).

In Patricia’s blog you can also find the latest editions of La letra en blanco.

The 6th issue is available on issuu.com via this link.

By the way , if you want to know more about creative writing, it’s highly recommended to take a look at our Prisma and Digitalia databases.
