This collection is made up of 90 books, audio CDs, some manuscripts of his translations and some memorabilia. Acting on the executor&#8217;s behalf, William Roberts<strong> gave us the originals<\/strong> on May 12 at Instituto Cervantes London.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"284\" height=\"177\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.cervantes.es\/londres\/files\/2022\/05\/download.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-14576\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The actor, author, flamenco dancer and hispanophile Trader Faulkner passed away in April 2021 in London, leaving behind a <strong>wealth of material related to Spain and Spanish culture.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.cervantes.es\/londres\/files\/2022\/05\/Trader_MS2-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-14552\" width=\"358\" height=\"269\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.cervantes.es\/londres\/files\/2022\/05\/Trader_MS2-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blogs.cervantes.es\/londres\/files\/2022\/05\/Trader_MS2-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.cervantes.es\/londres\/files\/2022\/05\/Trader_MS2-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.cervantes.es\/londres\/files\/2022\/05\/Trader_MS2-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/blogs.cervantes.es\/londres\/files\/2022\/05\/Trader_MS2.jpg 1600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 358px) 100vw, 358px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>He was born in Australia, but moved to London in 1950 and immediately embarked on a long and distinguished career as an actor. Shortly after his arrival in London he saw A<strong>ntonio the Dancer&#8217;s flamenco<\/strong> group in a theatre in Shaftesbury Avenue, and immediately fell in love with flamenco dancing.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He decided to study flamenco to use the discipline and skills used in flamenco dancing to help him with his movement and balance as an actor. However, he did perform as a flamenco dancer, in his <strong>own company &#8216;Los Ronde\u00f1os&#8217;<\/strong> (at the Teatro Real de la Corte, among other venues), and was eventually invited by Antonio el Bailar\u00edn to dance Farruca when his company performed at the Paladium.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.cervantes.es\/londres\/files\/2022\/05\/Trader3_1-1024x524.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-14564\" width=\"443\" height=\"226\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.cervantes.es\/londres\/files\/2022\/05\/Trader3_1-1024x524.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blogs.cervantes.es\/londres\/files\/2022\/05\/Trader3_1-300x153.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.cervantes.es\/londres\/files\/2022\/05\/Trader3_1-768x393.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.cervantes.es\/londres\/files\/2022\/05\/Trader3_1.jpg 1408w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 443px) 100vw, 443px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Trader <strong>studied flamenco with many of the great\u2019s flamenco dancers<\/strong>, including El Cojo de Madrid, Carmen Amaya, Antonio el Bailar\u00edn and Antonio Gades, and became friends with many of them. He was also a close friend of Paco Pe\u00f1a.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.cervantes.es\/londres\/files\/2022\/05\/Trader_MS5-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-14561\" width=\"280\" height=\"374\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.cervantes.es\/londres\/files\/2022\/05\/Trader_MS5-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.cervantes.es\/londres\/files\/2022\/05\/Trader_MS5-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/blogs.cervantes.es\/londres\/files\/2022\/05\/Trader_MS5-1152x1536.jpg 1152w, https:\/\/blogs.cervantes.es\/londres\/files\/2022\/05\/Trader_MS5.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 280px) 100vw, 280px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>He ended his career as an actor by putting together a theatrical evocation of the life and work of perhaps Spain&#8217;s greatest recent poet\/playwright, <strong>Federico Garc\u00eda Lorca.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As the years passed and his love of Spanish continued, he translated several classic Spanish plays into English, one of which, <strong><em>Divinas Palabras<\/em> by Miguel del Valle Incl\u00e1n, <\/strong>was performed at the National Theatre in the UK.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For his work in bringing Spanish culture to Britain, in 1983 Trader was awarded the <strong>Order of Civil Merit <\/strong>by King Juan Carlos. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.cervantes.es\/londres\/files\/2022\/05\/Trader2_1-1024x764.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-14570\" width=\"289\" height=\"215\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.cervantes.es\/londres\/files\/2022\/05\/Trader2_1-1024x764.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blogs.cervantes.es\/londres\/files\/2022\/05\/Trader2_1-300x224.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.cervantes.es\/londres\/files\/2022\/05\/Trader2_1-768x573.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.cervantes.es\/londres\/files\/2022\/05\/Trader2_1.jpg 1136w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 289px) 100vw, 289px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>When Trader passed away, he left behind <strong>a wealth of material collected <\/strong>over the years relating to Spain and its culture, which his family and friends have generously donated to our library.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It should also be noted that Trader <strong>performed at the former Spanish Institute in 1991<\/strong> (now Instituto Cervantes) including extracts from his Lorca show, as one of the <a href=\"https:\/\/catalogo-bibliotecas.cervantes.es\/general\/abnetcl.exe?TITN=216893\">cassettes<\/a> in our library shows.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To see the complete collection click <a href=\"https:\/\/catalogo-bibliotecas.cervantes.es\/general\/abnetcl.exe?SUBC=GBR\/LOND&amp;ACC=DOSEARCH&amp;xsqf99=(TRADER.T852.)\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We are happy to introduce you to the Trader Faulkner Collection, the latest donation received in our library.
