A young girl, Ofelia faces a series of challenges in a post-Civil War Spain landscape where nothing can be taken a face value. Her mother\u2019s remarriage to the sadistic army captain Vidal creates a climate of oppressive fear and surveillance within the family home while in the surrounding forest a series of creatures and fairies offer a different set of challenges.
