Cuatro de los autores presentar\u00e1n sus estudios sobre c\u00f3mo se relaciona la comunidad cient\u00edfica con los gobiernos en tiempos de democracia y de dictadura.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>La mesa redonda \u201c<em>Science Policy in the 20<sup>th<\/sup>-Century in Spain, Italy and Argentina<\/em>\u201d contar\u00e1 con las intervenciones del catedr\u00e1tico de Estudios de Pol\u00edtica Cient\u00edfica Brian Balmer de la University College London, la catedr\u00e1tica de L\u00f3gica y Filosof\u00eda de la Ciencia Amparo G\u00f3mez-Rodr\u00edguez y el profesor de Historia de la Educaci\u00f3n Antonio Canales-Serrano, ambos de la Universidad de La Laguna, as\u00ed como con el profesor de Historia de la Ciencia Francisco Gonz\u00e1lez Redondo de la Universidad Complutense de Madrid.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Los ponentes tratar\u00e1n las pol\u00edticas cient\u00edficas de tres pa\u00edses (Espa\u00f1a, Italia y Argentina) que experimentaron una considerable agitaci\u00f3n pol\u00edtica durante la primera mitad del siglo XX. Se prestar\u00e1 especial atenci\u00f3n a Espa\u00f1a, por una parte, por ser uno de los primeros pa\u00edses en aplicar el \u201ccontrato social para la ciencia\u201d durante los a\u00f1os que constituyeron la Edad de Plata de la cultura espa\u00f1ola, por la convergencia con Europa tras d\u00e9cadas de decadencia y aislamiento; y, por otra parte, por el impacto que la Guerra Civil espa\u00f1ola tuvo en el sistema cient\u00edfico y en su posterior reconstrucci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Este evento es el primer acto cient\u00edfico del programa \u201cCiencia en la Embajada\u201d organizado por la Oficina para asuntos culturales y cient\u00edficos de la Embajada de Espa\u00f1a en Londres y la Fundaci\u00f3n Espa\u00f1ola para la Ciencia y la Tecnolog\u00eda (FECYT). Four of the authors will show their studies about the relationships between scientific communities and governments during times of democracy and dictatorships.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Four scientists will participate in the roundtable \u201cScience Policy in the 20th Century in Spain, Italy and Argentina\u201d: Prof Brian Balmer, Professor in Science Policy Studies in University College London (UCL); Prof Amparo G\u00f3mez-Rodr\u00edguez, Professor in Logic and Phylosophy of Science, and Dr Antonio Canales-Serrano, Lecturer in History of Education, both from Universidad de La Laguna; and Dr Francisco A Gonz\u00e1lez-Redondo, Senior Lecturer in History of Science in Universidad Complutense de Madrid.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Talks will delve in science policies in three countries\u2014Spain, Italy and Argentina\u2014that each experienced considerable political upheaval in the 20<sup>th<\/sup> Century. Special attention will be placed in Spain, because it was one of the first countries to successfully apply the so-called \u2018social contract\u2019 for science, a concept similar to the Haldane Principle in the UK, during the first half of the 20<sup>th<\/sup> Century. The Spanish convergence with Europe, after decades of isolation and decline, embodied the Silver Age for Spain. However, the Spanish Civil War would have a significant impact on the science system and its subsequent rebuilding.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This is the first event of the scientific programme \u201cScience at the Embassy\u201d organized by the Office for Cultural and Scientific Affairs of the Spanish Embassy in London and the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT).
