\nEl joven guitarrista flamenco Manuel Valencia (Jerez de la Frontera, 1984) inaugur\u00f3 el mi\u00e9rcoles 24 de febrero el ciclo\u00a0Guitarr\u00edsimo<\/strong> <\/em>del Instituto Cervantes de Londres e ILAMS (Iberian and Latin American Music Society), un nuevo ciclo dedicado a la guitarra en todos sus formatos instrumentales y estilos<\/strong> que ya ha recalado anteriormente en varios centros del Instituto Cervantes en el mundo.<\/p>\n

El concierto, que formaba tambi\u00e9n parte de la programaci\u00f3n del Festival de Flamenco de Londres, fue de una gran pureza: en un marco \u00edntimo \u2013un repleto auditorio de 100 butacas, con buena ac\u00fastica y sin amplificaci\u00f3n, sin filtros ni efectos<\/strong>, Manuel Valencia, ganador del Giraldillo Artista Revelaci\u00f3n en la Bienal de Sevilla 2014, electriz\u00f3 al p\u00fablico mientras desgranaba parte del repertorio que conforma su pr\u00f3ximo primer disco como solista.\u00a0Buler\u00edas, por sole\u00e1, ronde\u00f1a, alegr\u00edas, minera-fandango, siguiriya<\/em>: un paseo elegante y delicado, de un ritmo endiablado pero subyacente, apenas insinuado en ocasiones, por los palos m\u00e1s populares del arte flamenco. Finaliz\u00f3 con un homenaje al maestro Paco de Luc\u00eda, interpretando su sole\u00e1\u00a0Gloria al Ni\u00f1o Ricardo<\/em>. Una dedicatoria en rotulador, con la inconfundible firma de Paco, luc\u00eda orgullosa en lo alto de su guitarra.<\/p>\n

Manuel Valencia pertenece a la m\u00e1s nueva generaci\u00f3n de \u201cnietos\u201d de Paco. Mientras Vicente Amigo, para muchos el principal heredero del de Algeciras, hac\u00eda estallar el domingo 21 la sala grande del Sadler\u2019s Wells, este joven disc\u00edpulo de Gerardo N\u00fa\u00f1ez demostraba que la guitarra flamenca y \u00e9l como uno de sus nuevos grandes int\u00e9rpretes tienen un presente y un futuro extraordinarios<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

El pr\u00f3ximo concierto del ciclo Guitarr\u00edsimo ser\u00e1 \u201cLa big\u00fcela de Cervantes\u201d<\/strong>, por el vihuelista barcelon\u00e9s Alfred Fern\u00e1ndez, que interpretar\u00e1 repertorio del s. XVII para este instrumento y recitar\u00e1 sonetos y epitafios de Miguel de Cervantes cuando se cumplen 400 a\u00f1os de su muerte<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Young flamenco guitarist Manuel Valencia (Jerez de la Frontera, 1984) gave\u00a0the inaugural performance\u00a0of the Guitarrisimo series\u00a0<\/strong>this past Wednesday 24 February. Organised by Instituto Cervantes London and ILAMS (Iberian and Latin American Music Society), Guitarrisimo showcases the numerous facets and styles of guitar songwriting and playing<\/strong>. This remarkable rendition to the Spanish instrument par excellence has taken place in other Instituto Cervantes centres around the world in past years.<\/p>\n

This first (sold out) concert of the Guitarrisimo series, part of the 2016 London Flamenco Festival schedule, took place in\u00a0an intimate setting; a 100-seat\u00a0venue with good acoustics that allowed for\u00a0a performance\u00a0without any sound amplification, filters or effects<\/strong>. Manuel Valencia, who won the Giraldillo Award for Best New Artist at the Seville Biennial in 2014, blew the audience away as he went through\u00a0the songs from\u00a0his upcoming album and\u00a0first solo work. Buler\u00edas, por sole\u00e1, ronde\u00f1a, alegr\u00edas, minera-fandango, siguiriya<\/em>: elegant and delicate, with a devilish underlying rhythm, barely hinted at times, Valencia presented\u00a0the audience with the most popular flamenco styles\u00a0and ended with a tribute to flamenco guitar master Paco de Lucia by playing\u00a0his sole\u00e1 <\/em>Gloria Al Ni\u00f1o Ricardo. Meanwhile, de Lucia’s\u00a0unmistakable signature looked on\u00a0proudly from the surface of the young artist\u2019s guitar.<\/p>\n

Manuel Valencia belongs to the newest generation of Paco de Lucia’s so-called \u2018grandchildren\u2019. While Vicente Amigo, Paco\u2019s true heir to many, brought the audience to their feet last Sunday on Sadler’s Wells\u2019s main stage, this young artist, a disciple of Gerardo Nunez\u2019s, proved that the flamenco guitar as an instrument and he himself as a musician are in for an extraordinary future<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Next up\u00a0in the Guitarr\u00edsimo series is La Biguela De Cervantes<\/strong>, by Barcelona-born vihuela player Alfred Fernandez. Fernandez will present a vihuela repertoire from sXVII, as well as recite a number of\u00a0 sonnets and epitaphs written by Miguel de Cervantes\u00a0to mark\u00a0the IV centenary of the author\u2019s death<\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
