Lunatics, Lovers and Poets: Stories after Cervantes and Shakespeare<\/span><\/b><\/strong><\/p>\n

To commemorate the 400th anniversary of the near simultaneous deaths in 1616 of both Shakespeare and Cervantes, And Other Stories and Hay Festival have selected 12 contemporary international authors to write an original and previously unpublished story as their tribute to these giants of world literature.<\/p>\n

Join a selection of writers including Vicente Molina Foix, Deborah Levy and Ben Okri \u00a0for an evening of readings and discussion hosted by Daniel Hahn.<\/p>\n

The anthology, which will be available at the event, will comprise six English-speaking writers offering a take on Cervantes and his work, while six contemporary Spanish-language writers have written stories inspired by Shakespeare. The writers are Kamila Shamsie. Ben Okri, Deborah Levy, Yuri Herrera, Marcos Giralt Torrente, Juan Gabriel V\u00e1squez, Vicente Molina Foix, Soledad Pu\u00e9rtolas, Hisham Matar, Nell Leyshon, Rhidian Brook and Valeria Luiselli, with an introduction by Salman Rushdie.<\/p>\n

400 Aniversario de la muerte de Miguel de Cervantes y William Shakespeare<\/strong><\/p>\n

Con motivo de una de las efem\u00e9rides del 400 aniversario de la muerte de Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra y William Shakespeare. Hay Festival, AC\/E y el British Council han llevado a cabo un proyecto espec\u00edfico para revisar la influencia que han tenido estos dos genios en la literatura universal. Para ello, se propuso a seis escritores de habla inglesa y a seis de habla hispana que escribieran un texto original e in\u00e9dito, en el que rendieran su particular homenaje literario a Cervantes y Shakespeare. Con el fin de mostrar la repercusi\u00f3n e influencia internacional de estas dos grandes figuras literarias, los escritores de habla inglesa escribieron un texto influenciado por la obra de Cervantes, mientras que los escritores de habla hispana tomaron como base la de Shakespeare. La antolog\u00eda que recoge los textos de estos doce autores, acompa\u00f1ados de un pr\u00f3logo de Salman Rushdie, ha sido publicada por Galaxia Gutemberg (en su versi\u00f3n espa\u00f1ola) y por la editorial And Other Stories (en su versi\u00f3n inglesa).<\/p>\n

El proyecto se presentar\u00e1 en varias plataformas (p\u00e1gina web biling\u00fce, Hay Festivals de Am\u00e9rica y Gales (varias fechas), Biblioteca Nacional de Madrid (7 de abril) y British Library de Londres (12 de abril).<\/p>\n
