For two weeks in October, from the 1<sup>st<\/sup> to 6<sup>th<\/sup> and 15<sup>th<\/sup> to 20<sup>th<\/sup>, the John Lyon Theatre will host a diversity of productions to submerge the audience in some of the most exciting modern and classic Spanish theatre. The premier night of each production will be followed by a Q&amp;A session with the audience aimed at strengthening the cultural interchange and understanding between spectator and performer.<\/p>\n<p>This year FesTeL\u00f5n launches its very own fringe festival, FesTeL\u00f5n-OFF. Emerging companies in the UK are invited to perform a Spanish play in a competition to be held in London next April. The winner will then perform at FesTeL\u00f5n 2020.<\/p>\n<p>For the founder of the festival, Mariv\u00ed Rodr\u00edguez Qui\u00f1ones, the highlight of this year\u2019s edition lies in \u2018the powerful productions that give voice to women and the LGBT community to talk about power, love, violence, homophobia, struggles as relevant in their day as they are now\u2019.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-8180 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.cervantes.es\/londres\/files\/2019\/09\/2019_La_Calderona_web-254x360.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"254\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.cervantes.es\/londres\/files\/2019\/09\/2019_La_Calderona_web-254x360.png 254w, https:\/\/blogs.cervantes.es\/londres\/files\/2019\/09\/2019_La_Calderona_web-254x360-212x300.png 212w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 254px) 100vw, 254px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Starting with \u2018La Calderona\u2019, a black comedy musical that uses hip-hop, with a live DJ on stage, that tells the story of the most controversial of king Philip IV\u2019s lovers. The play speaks of power, ambition, love and survival, relevant concepts in 17<sup>th<\/sup> century Spain that resonate very strongly with contemporary audiences.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-8183 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.cervantes.es\/londres\/files\/2019\/09\/2019_La_Margarita_del_Tajo_web-1-254x360.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"254\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.cervantes.es\/londres\/files\/2019\/09\/2019_La_Margarita_del_Tajo_web-1-254x360.png 254w, https:\/\/blogs.cervantes.es\/londres\/files\/2019\/09\/2019_La_Margarita_del_Tajo_web-1-254x360-212x300.png 212w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 254px) 100vw, 254px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The 2019 winning production of AlmagrOff, the fringe festival that runs alongside the prestigious International Festival of Classical Theatre in Almagro, will have its UK premier at FesTeL\u00f5n. \u2018La Margarita del Tajo que dio nombre a Santar\u00e9n\u2019 is a riotous and tragicomic adaptation of a religious comedy about passion, adultery, sacrilege and femicide.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-8189 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.cervantes.es\/londres\/files\/2019\/09\/2019_Yerma-web-254x360.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"254\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.cervantes.es\/londres\/files\/2019\/09\/2019_Yerma-web-254x360.png 254w, https:\/\/blogs.cervantes.es\/londres\/files\/2019\/09\/2019_Yerma-web-254x360-212x300.png 212w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 254px) 100vw, 254px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Lorca\u2019s acclaimed play Yerma will open the second week of the festival.
