{"id":847,"date":"2010-07-30T11:05:55","date_gmt":"2010-07-30T11:05:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/institutocervanteslondon.wordpress.com\/?p=847"},"modified":"2010-07-30T11:05:55","modified_gmt":"2010-07-30T11:05:55","slug":"a-homage-to-britains-flamenco-pioneers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.cervantes.es\/londres\/2010\/07\/30\/a-homage-to-britains-flamenco-pioneers\/","title":{"rendered":"A homage to Britain&#8217;s flamenco pioneers"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"width: 231px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a title=\"Spanish Steps: Flamenco in a Foreign Land\" href=\"http:\/\/londonspanish.wordpress.com\/2010\/07\/30\/a-homage-to-britains-flamenco-pioneers-pasion-y-arte-unidos-en-un-unico-homenaje\/\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" \" src=\"http:\/\/londonspanish.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/07\/spanish-steps-film-4.jpg?w=526&amp;h=454\" alt=\"\" width=\"221\" height=\"190\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Spanish Steps<\/p><\/div>\n<p>PASSION and flamenco go together like <em>pan con tomate<\/em>, so it\u2019s no surprise to hear producer-director Anna Holmes describe her film <strong><a title=\"Spanish Steps: Flamenco in a Foreign Land\" href=\"http:\/\/www.spanishstepsfilm.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Spanish Steps: Flamenco in a Foreign Land<\/a><\/strong> as \u201ca passion project\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The making of this documentary has been a labour of love for the past 18 months or so after Anna was unable to secure funding from production companies.\u00a0But thanks to a lifelong love of dance, plus the support of friends and family and her assistant producer Victor, Anna has succeeded in making her first film.<\/p>\n<p>Her other reason for wanting to make this documentary was to capture a slice of social history before it\u2019s too late \u2013 many of these flamenco pioneers are now in their 80s and sadly may not be with us for much longer.<\/p>\n<p>London in the 1950s, what with post-war austerity and the notorious smog, must have been a pretty bleak place at times.
