¡Ya es verano! Y como no podía ser de otra manera el Instituto Cervantes ya está preparado para ofrecer una buena dosis de ritmo latino. La Salsa es un baile cálido que mezcla influencias africanas y europeas, a través de sonidos y danzas que conforman sus raíces. Normalmente se baila en parejas, pero también de forma individual o como Rueda de Casino. Sin duda, un básico de todos los veranos.

Así que si estás pensando en ir de vacaciones a algún lugar soleado o simplemente quieres sorprender a alguien con nuevos y sensuales movimientos de baile ¡Apúntate a nuestro taller de salsa! Aprende desde los pasos básicos, ritmos, interpretación de la música, hasta la forma de llevar o dejarse llevar. Hay tres niveles y horarios distintos:

–Avanzado: Sábado, 12.00-14.00. Diez sesiones de 2 horas (£141)
–Intermedio: Sábado,  14.00-16.00. Diez sesiones de 2 horas (£141)
–Principiantes:Sábado,  16.00-17.00. Diez sesiones de 1 hora (£70)

Is Summer and Instituto Cervantes is ready to offer a great dosis of Latin Rhythm. Salsa dancing mixes African and European influences through the music and dance fusions that are the roots of Salsa. It is normally a partner dance, although there are recognized solo forms as Rueda de Casino. Definitely, a must all summers.

So, if you are thinking about spending the Holiday in a sunny place or if you just want to impress someone, enroll in our Salsa Workshop! Learn the basic steps, posture, timing and interpretation of music, partner dancing with leading/following freestyle. There are three different levels and times for this workshop series:

–Advanced: Saturday (12 to 2pm). Ten sessions of 2 hours (£141)
–Intermediate: Saturday (2 to 4pm). Ten sessions of 2 hours  (£141)
–Beginners: Saturday (4 to 5pm). Ten sessions of 1 hour (£70)

Día del Libro – Books´Day

El 23 de abril de 1616 fallecían Shakespeare y Cervantes, una fecha tan simbólica para la literatura universal que fue la escogida para rendir un homenaje mundial al libro y sus autores y promover la lectura. España celebra este día regalando rosas y libros, y el Instituto Cervantes de Manchester se ha sumado a este gesto.

Acércate este sábado y disfruta de todas las actividades organizadas en torno a Cervantes y la literatura hispana completamente gratis: un mercadillo de libros, lectura de poemas, actividades para niños relacionadas con El Quijote y una recepción de vino y snacks. Además, también recibirás uno de nuestros libros o una rosa como obsequio. (+)

The 23rd of April, 1616 saw the deaths of both Shakespeare and Cervantes. This date was so important for universal literature that was chosen to celebrate World Book Day and to pay homage to the writers and to promote the importance of reading. Spanish people celebrate that day giving away roses and books, and Instituto Cervantes in Manchester has joined this tradition.

Come this Saturday and enjoy all the activities that we have organised around Cervantes and Spanish literature completely free: a book market, poetry reading, a workshop for kids about El Quijote and a wine and snack reception. We will also hand out roses and books to keep our tradition. (+)

Hola a todos/as,

Con motivo de la elección de Mánchester como Ciudad Europea de la Ciencia, el Instituto Cervantes de la ciudad organiza una serie de actos relacionados con los avances de científicos e investigadores españoles en Reino Unido: España. Cien por Ciencia.

El Cambio Climático da inicio a este ciclo de eventos la próxima semana, con una magnífica exposición fotográfica cedida por la Alliance Française, cuyo lema es Clima: estado de emergencia y la cual estará presente hasta finales de mes.

Del mismo modo, el 14 de abril El Instituto Cervantes de Mánchester acoge una mesa redonda internacional en la que participan expertos de España, Francia e Italia para tratar de aclarar los aspectos tanto científicos como humanos del este tema tan actual.

Hello everyone,

On the occasion of Manchester been named European City of Science, the Instituto Cervantes will hold a series of activities to share some of the scientific advances by Spanish researchers in United Kingdom: Spain. Science Is The Key.

The Climate Change will mark the beginning of the events next week with an amazing photograph exhibition ceded by Alliance Française under the theme: Climate, State of Emergency, which will be displayed until the end of the month.

At the same time, on 14 April, The Instituto Cervantes in Manchester will hold an international round table with experts from Spain, France and Italy in order to clarify the different aspects both scientific and human of this current issue.

Nos alegra contarles que este mes de abril el IC de Mánchester ha preparado un interesante programa cultural en el que destaca el concierto Molinos de Cuerda: La música en tiempos de Cervantes del próximo día 23, en colaboración con el Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM). El propio Miguel de Cervantes además de escritor era músico, capaz de tocar la vihuela y cantar. Esto queda reflejado en el personaje de Don Quijote; si bien existe cierta confusión al respecto, pues en algún capítulo éste pide para tocar no una vihuela sino un laúd, otro instrumento común en el tiempo de la novela.

Tras una investigación, los estudiantes del RNCM de Mánchester han adaptado algunas de las piezas de la época para guitarra. Los estudiantes que participarán en este concierto son: Sam Rodwell, Owen Bunting, Richard Haslam, Bradley Johnson, James Girling, Jamie MacRae e Yvonne Bloor.

A través de este concierto, conmemoramos el 400 aniversario de la publicación de la segunda parte de El ingenioso caballero don Quijote de la Mancha, publicada a finales de 1615.

We are happy to let you know that this very month of April Manchester’s Instituto Cervantes has organised a very interesting programme, where we highlight the concert named Mill Of Strings: Music In Cervantes Times on the 23rd, in collaboration with the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM).

Miguel de Cervantes himself was known as a musician besides as a writer, as he was able to play vihuela and sing. This is reflected on the character of Don Quixote. There is some kind of confusion about it though, as at some chapter Don Quixote asks for a lute to play instead of a vihuela. The lute was also a common instrument at the time of the novel.

Students at RNCM in Manchester have made a research so as to adapt several pieces of that time to guitar. Students performing in this concert are: Sam Rodwell, Owen Bunting, Richard Haslam, Bradley Johnson, James Girling, Jamie MacRae and Yvonne Bloor.

With this concert, we would like to commemorate the 400th Anniversary of the publication of the second part of the extraordinary work by Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra, The Ingenious Gentleman Don Quixote of La Mancha, published towards the end of 1615.
