Sinopsis:

Chocó es una mujer campesina, en la plenitud de sus veinte años que lleva a cuestas una familia de dos hijos menores y a Everlides, su esposo, un músico que sólo sabe tocar marimba, beber biche y jugar dominó. En la mañana ella trabaja buscando oro en el río San Juan y en las tardes lava ropa de otras familias para alimentar y educar a sus hijos.

Synopsis:

This hard-hitting but heart-warming drama from producer-turned-director Jhonny Hendrix focuses on Chocó, a poor Colombian mother struggling to cope with her abusive husband. She spends her days panning for gold and taking in laundry to support her family, and when her young daughter asks for a birthday cake, Chocó goes to great lengths to fulfill her daughter’s wish.

Todo comienza un jueves cuando Lucía (10) y Manuel (7) viajan junto a sus padres por un fin de semana largo hacia el norte de Chile. Todo termina un domingo. Es la visión distante y fragmentada de los niños de este posible último viaje familiar.

Told through the eyes of ten-year-old Lucia, De jueves a domingo is the story of a broken family’s final journey; a journey to the north of the country, and a journey towards separation. Ana and Fernando have promised to take their two children, Lucia and seven-year-old Manuel on a road trip to show them the beaches of northern Chile. The forced intimacy of the car’s interior set against vast and arid Chilean landscapes reiterates and magnifies the claustrophobic isolation within this poignant tale of innocence and loss.

El domingo 10 de marzo se celebrará un año más el popular Café-Cervantes, una charla informal entre todos aquellos amantes del cine en español. Una buena oportunidad de practicar el idioma conversando sobre las películas de esta 19ª edición del ¡VIVA! Film Festival.

Animamos a todos aquellos estudiantes de español de nivel medio o superior a participar en este evento, que estará guiado por Iñaki Abad y Kepa González del Instituto Cervantes de Manchester.

Se llevará a cabo en el Café / Bar de Cornerhouse y aunque es gratuito se requiere de reserva.

Sinopsis:

Dalia vive con su pequeño hijo Cosmo, separada del marido. Su vida cambia cuando tiene que confrontar el Alzheimer prematuro que le diagnostican a Lala, su madre, bióloga etnobotánica de la UNAM. Las buenas hierbas es un relato sobre la química del cerebro, la química de las plantas y de las emociones humanas. Da cuenta de los lazos invisibles que unen a los seres vivos con sus muertos; de la naturaleza que a todos nos envuelve -y a la que en última instancia pertenecemos. De la herencia herbolaria mexicana y del conocimiento ancestral de ciertas plantas que ayudan a curar el alma.

Celebrated for her powerful portrayals of female characters, María Novaro has created an exquisite portrait of a mother and daughter confronting the tragedies of early onset Alzheimer’s, and a beautiful illustration of the ties that bind the living, the dead, and the natural world to which we ultimately all belong.

“¿Cuándo empezó a torcerse todo?”, se pregunta Salva en la barra del bar del hotel donde se celebra la feria más importante del sector. De vendedor estrella, a un paso del despido si en dos días no cierra al menos doscientas unidades. “¿Qué coño ha cambiado, Carmelo, que yo no me he enterado?”. Sentado junto a él, Carmelo, su antiguo jefe. Ambos contemplan atónitos el relevo generacional y la deslealtad de un sector que se muestra indiferente con aquellos que fueron imprescindibles

El director de ésta película Xavi Puebla, habla de la experiencia de trabajar con actores de la talla de Nick Nolte, “cuanta más experiencia tiene un actor más profesional es” dijo. Por su parte, Nolte comenta que películas como “A puerta fría” ya no se hacía en Hollywood y confesó que al principio se sentía asustado por grabar en España debido a la barrera lingüística. Según Puebla esto al final no supuso ningún problema puesto que Nolte prestaba gran atención a las indicaciones del director y consiguió hacer un gran trabajo a pesar de la diferencia idiomática.

A puerta fría ganó el premio al Mejor Actor y el Premio de la Crítica en el Festival de Cine de Málaga del 2012.

As the pivotal character appearing in nearly every scene, prolific sevillano actor Antonio Dechent is the driving force of this perfectly pitched study of a desperate salesman facing financial ruin. His rapid moral decline makes captivating viewing, his brilliant performance is well supported by María Valverde (Ladrones) and Hollywood star Nick Nolte.

As a one-time salesman himself, director Xavi Puebla describes his theme as the tyranny of work and money coupled with merciless generational change, with characters from another era struggling to save themselves without sullying their souls.

The director of the film Xavi Puebla, talked about his experience of working with actors such as Nick Nolte, whilst filming in Seville. According to Nolte, films like this one are no longer made in Hollywood. Nolte confessed that he was terrified of filming in Spain due to the language barrier, but as Puebla commented, he paid attention to all the instructions doing a very good job despite the language problem, “ the more experienced the actor, the better professional”….
