Nos alegra contarles que este mes de abril el IC de Mánchester ha preparado un interesante programa cultural en el que destaca el concierto Molinos de Cuerda: La música en tiempos de Cervantes del próximo día 23, en colaboración con el Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM). El propio Miguel de Cervantes además de escritor era músico, capaz de tocar la vihuela y cantar. Esto queda reflejado en el personaje de Don Quijote; si bien existe cierta confusión al respecto, pues en algún capítulo éste pide para tocar no una vihuela sino un laúd, otro instrumento común en el tiempo de la novela.

Tras una investigación, los estudiantes del RNCM de Mánchester han adaptado algunas de las piezas de la época para guitarra. Los estudiantes que participarán en este concierto son: Sam Rodwell, Owen Bunting, Richard Haslam, Bradley Johnson, James Girling, Jamie MacRae e Yvonne Bloor.

A través de este concierto, conmemoramos el 400 aniversario de la publicación de la segunda parte de El ingenioso caballero don Quijote de la Mancha, publicada a finales de 1615.

We are happy to let you know that this very month of April Manchester’s Instituto Cervantes has organised a very interesting programme, where we highlight the concert named Mill Of Strings: Music In Cervantes Times on the 23rd, in collaboration with the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM).

Miguel de Cervantes himself was known as a musician besides as a writer, as he was able to play vihuela and sing. This is reflected on the character of Don Quixote. There is some kind of confusion about it though, as at some chapter Don Quixote asks for a lute to play instead of a vihuela. The lute was also a common instrument at the time of the novel.

Students at RNCM in Manchester have made a research so as to adapt several pieces of that time to guitar. Students performing in this concert are: Sam Rodwell, Owen Bunting, Richard Haslam, Bradley Johnson, James Girling, Jamie MacRae and Yvonne Bloor.

With this concert, we would like to commemorate the 400th Anniversary of the publication of the second part of the extraordinary work by Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra, The Ingenious Gentleman Don Quixote of La Mancha, published towards the end of 1615.

Ya se puede consultar las novedades en la biblioteca electrónica, que alcanza ya los 4.000 títulos. Todas las obras están disponibles para su descarga o préstamo y se puede acceder a todos los títulos con el carné de la biblioteca.

Actualmente, la biblioteca incluye recursos electrónicos y bases de datos, audiolibros, vídeos y libros electrónicos sobre lingüística, obras literarias clásicas y contemporáneas de autores españoles e hispanoamericanos, historia, arte, literatura infantil y ELE. Este fondo, al igual que el de las bibliotecas presenciales de nuestra red, quiere ofrecer una visión equilibrada y actual de la cultura y las letras de España e Hispanoamérica en este nuevo formato.

Now it is available the newness of the electronic library, which has more than 4.000 tittles. All of them can also be downloaded and borrowed and you can access to these items with the library card.

The  library currently includes electronic resources and databases, audiobooks, videos and e-books on linguistics, classical and contemporary literary works by Spanish and Latin American authors, history, art, children’s literature and ELE. This line, like the face of libraries in our network, and aims to provide a balanced view of the current culture and literature of Spain and Spanish America in this new format.

En un estudio de reciente publicación en YouGov, encontramos el empleo como bibliotecario está entre las profesiones más deseadas en el Reino Unido, aunque no sea uno de los trabajos mejor pagados. Además de ésta, también se incluyen profesiones del mundo literario como el de autor, abogado, periodista, etc, encabezando el ranking de este estudio.

Un 54% de la población les gustarían trabajar en el mundo de las bibliotecas, pese a que la industria editorial está cambiando o evolucionando hacia el entorno digital, con la consecuente disminución del papel impreso. Numerosas bibliotecas en EEUU y España están apostando por esta transformación debido, principalmente, a la falta de presupuesto.

La firma de un acuerdo con Odilo, nueva plataforma española de distribución de ebooks, facilita esta transición. En OdiloPlace, tienda online de Odilo, se pueden adquirir o prestar cerca de 60.000 títulos.

Entre las bibliotecas que utilizan este nuevo sistema de préstamo, se encuentra el Instituto Cervantes que a través de su catálogo en Absys se pueden descargar numerosos ejemplares con sólo ser usuario de la red de bibliotecas. 

According to a research recently published on the website YouGov, we found the librarian that it is one of the most desirable professions, even if it is not one of the better paid. Moreover, many literary professions are also included such as the author, which all of them are leading the ranking of this study.

In fact, 54% of the population would like to work in the library, although the publishing industry is turning into a digital environment, with the consequent reduction of the printed paper. Many libraries in the USA and Spain are for this transformation, mainly due to the low budgets and the signing of an agreement with Odilo, a new Spanish distribution platform ebooks. In OdiloPlace, Odilo´s online store, users will be able to buy and lend around 60,000 titles.

Instituto Cervantes is one of the libraries using this new system. Through its catalog in Absys, users can download many digital copies, once they are registered on the libraries network.

Tras las VII Jornadas Didácticas de ELE en el Instituto Cervantes, dónde las diferentes editoriales presentaron sus nuevas ediciones de los manuales de español, la biblioteca cuenta con estos ejemplares para que podáis seguir estudiando español durante estas vacaciones.

Entre estos, las nuevas ediciones mejoradas de SGEL, Nuevo Español en Marcha, que mantiene su enfoque comunicativo controlado, secuencias didácticas cortas que agilizan el aprendizaje, progresión de contenidos ajustada al nivel de los alumnos, contenidos gramaticales, léxicos y funcionales en cuadros para ayuda del estudiante en la realización de actividades, etc.

Lo novedoso de este ejemplar es que contiene un nuevo apartado de «Comunicación y cultura» en todas las unidades para trabajar las destrezas: hablar, escuchar, leer, escribir, incorpora ejercicios prácticos al anexo de «Gramática y vocabulario», tabla de verbos, etc.

After the 6th Teaching Conference of Spanish as a Second Language in Instituto Cervantes, where different publishers presented their new editions of Spanish manuals, the library has these copies so you can continue studying Spanish during this holiday.

Between them, the new enhanced editions SGEL, Nuevo Español en Marcha, which has controlled communicative approach, short teaching sequences that accelerate the learning progression content adjusted to the level of the students, grammatical, lexical and functional contents in order to help the students for doing the exercises, etc.

The new about this book is that it contains a new section on «Communication and culture» in all units to work skills: speaking, listening, reading, writing, incorporating attached exercises  t «Grammar and Vocabulary» chart verbs, etc.

El Instituto Cervantes y la Fundación Colegios Mayores MAEC-AECID celebran en verano de 2014 los Cursos especializados de cultura, turismo y ocio, en Madrid.

Objetivo: que los participantes, además de asistir con provecho a los cursos formativos de carácter cultural, puedan vivir un intenso periodo de inmersión lingüística y conocer de cerca muchos aspectos del día a día de la sociedad española. Con este fin, el programa académico se complementa por las tardes con talleres, visitas turísticas y asistencia a espectáculos.

La oferta académica y cultural, bajo la dirección del Instituto Cervantes, contemplará la impartición de los Cursos de cultura española I (28 de julio -3 de agosto), II (4-10 de agosto) y III (11-17 de agosto) en horario de mañana.

La oferta de turismo y ocio, a cargo de la Fundación Colegios Mayores, incluirá la celebración de actividades extracurriculares por la tarde: talleres, excursiones, visitas guiadas y asistencia a espectáculos.

The Instituto Cervantes and the Fundación Colegios Mayores MAEC-AECID held in summer 2014 specialized courses culture, tourism and leisure in Madrid.

Objective: the participants, and assist with the training courses benefit cultural, can live an intense period of immersion and learn about many aspects of everyday life of Spanish society. To this end, the academic program is complemented by afternoon workshops, sightseeing and attending shows.

The academic and cultural, under the direction of the Instituto Cervantes, contemplate the teaching of Spanish culture courses I (28 july – 3 agost), II (4 – 10 agost) and III (11 – 17 agost) in the morning.

The supply of tourism and leisure, by the Higher Colleges Foundation, will include the celebration of extracurricular activities in the afternoon workshops, tours, excursions and attending shows.
