El Instituto Cervantes se suma a la nueva estación lanzando nuevos cursos generales de español de todos los niveles y también cursos especiales dedicados a la literatura, la traducción, el catalán y la preparación del DELE.

Si estas pensando en pasar tus próximas vacaciones en un lugar de habla hispana, o incluso catalana, esta es una buena ocasión para desempolvar tu español, mejorarlo o incluso de empezar a conocerlo desde cero. Spring seems to be finally approaching  Manchester, bringing sun, flowers and raising the temperatures. Instituto Cervantes wishes to contribute to the new season, so we are launching new Spanish courses of different levels as well as special courses to learn about literature, translation, catalán and to prepare the DELE exams (Diploma of Spanish as a Foreign Language).

Estamos encantados de presentaros un nuevo y ‘selecto’ club que estamos organizando en el Instituto Cervantes de Mánchester: el Club Guay. Dirigido a jóvenes de 10 a 14 años, este club se reunirá los sábados de 12 a 14h y sus miembros mejorarán su español sin olvidar que es fin de semana y que, por tanto, hay que disfrutar.

Precisamente la primera regla del Club Guay es ésa: pasarlo bien.

We are so glad to tell you about the new and ‘select’ club that we are organising at Manchester’s Instituto Cervantes: the Cool Club. Aimed at youngsters from 10 to 14 years old, this club will meet on Saturdays, from 12 to 2pm. Its members will improve their Spanish without forgetting what the weekends are made for: to have fun.

That is, precisely, the first rule of this club: to have fun.

Estamos a punto de comenzar una nueva edición de nuestros talleres de lectura, a cargo de Mariana Casale O´Ryan. Desde el 20 de enero al 20 de julio, de 19.00 a 21.00 horas, los participantes podrán descubrir mundos infinitos y compartir sus ideas.

Esta actividad se dirige a estudiantes de español de nivel intermedio en adelante y a todo amante de la literatura a fin de cuentas.

Julio Cortázar, Angélica Gorodischer o Jorge Luis Borges son algunos de los autores de esta temporada.

We are about to start a new edition of our reading workshops, led by Mariana Casale O´Ryan. From 20th January to 20th July (7 to 9pm), participants will be able to discover endless worlds and share their thoughts and ideas.

This activity is aimed at Spanish students (Intermediate level and beyond) and at every literature fan after all.

Julio Cortázar, Angélica Gorodischer or Jorge Luis Borges are some of the authors of this new season.

El Instituto Cervantes de Mánchester participa en la décima edición del Manchester Literature Festival, y la semana que viene será de lo más literaria. El martes 13, los escritores Kirmen Uribe y Jesús Carrasco charlarán sobre su pasión, la literatura, a la par que presentarán sus obras traducidas al inglés (Bilbao-New York-Bilbao e Intemperie, respectivamente). El jueves 15, será el turno de la autora catalana Care Santos, que hablará sobre su última novela, Deseo de Chocolate. Ambas citas estarán moderadas por la traductora Mariana Casale O’Ryan.

Las dos charlas son abiertas al público y gratuitas, si bien es necesario realizar la reserva a través de la página web de Manchester Literature Festival.

El Instituto Cervantes organiza estas actividades en colaboración con el Instituto Etxepare (en lo referente a Kirmen Uribe) y Literature Across Frontieres.

Instituto Cervantes in Manchester will take part in the 10th edition of Manchester Literature Festival, so next week will be very literary. On Tuesday 13th October, Spanish writers Kirmen Uribe and Jesus Carrasco will discuss about their passion: literature. They will talk about their novels translated into English as well (Bilbao-New York-Bilbao and Out in the Open, respectively). On Thursday 15th October, it will be the Catalan writer Care Santos who will take the word and introduce her latest novel, Desire for Chocolate. Both talks will be chaired by translator Mariana Casale O’Ryan.

The events are free entry but you should book your place through Manchester Literature Festival‘s website.

Instituto Cervantes organises these activities in collaboration with Etxepare Institute (regarding Kirmen Uribe) and Literature Across Frontieres.

Nos alegra contarles que este mes de abril el IC de Mánchester ha preparado un interesante programa cultural en el que destaca el concierto Molinos de Cuerda: La música en tiempos de Cervantes del próximo día 23, en colaboración con el Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM). El propio Miguel de Cervantes además de escritor era músico, capaz de tocar la vihuela y cantar. Esto queda reflejado en el personaje de Don Quijote; si bien existe cierta confusión al respecto, pues en algún capítulo éste pide para tocar no una vihuela sino un laúd, otro instrumento común en el tiempo de la novela.

Tras una investigación, los estudiantes del RNCM de Mánchester han adaptado algunas de las piezas de la época para guitarra. Los estudiantes que participarán en este concierto son: Sam Rodwell, Owen Bunting, Richard Haslam, Bradley Johnson, James Girling, Jamie MacRae e Yvonne Bloor.

A través de este concierto, conmemoramos el 400 aniversario de la publicación de la segunda parte de El ingenioso caballero don Quijote de la Mancha, publicada a finales de 1615.

We are happy to let you know that this very month of April Manchester’s Instituto Cervantes has organised a very interesting programme, where we highlight the concert named Mill Of Strings: Music In Cervantes Times on the 23rd, in collaboration with the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM).

Miguel de Cervantes himself was known as a musician besides as a writer, as he was able to play vihuela and sing. This is reflected on the character of Don Quixote. There is some kind of confusion about it though, as at some chapter Don Quixote asks for a lute to play instead of a vihuela. The lute was also a common instrument at the time of the novel.

Students at RNCM in Manchester have made a research so as to adapt several pieces of that time to guitar. Students performing in this concert are: Sam Rodwell, Owen Bunting, Richard Haslam, Bradley Johnson, James Girling, Jamie MacRae and Yvonne Bloor.

With this concert, we would like to commemorate the 400th Anniversary of the publication of the second part of the extraordinary work by Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra, The Ingenious Gentleman Don Quixote of La Mancha, published towards the end of 1615.
