Ciclo de cine

El Instituto Cervantes de Mánchester ofrecerá durante el próximo mes de mayo la oportunidad de disfrutar del cine español más actual en Manchester. Las películas Mientras duermes, No habrá paz para los malvados, No tengas miedo, Primos y Arriya son los cinco largometrajes que componen el ciclo de cine Contemporáneos y que serán proyectados en el Instituto Cervantes de esta ciudad.

Cinco películas y cinco géneros cinematográficos diferentes, desde la comedia al cine policíaco pasando por el drama con protagonistas siempre fácilmente reconocibles para el espectador.

Tras el final de la Guerra Civil, Manuel Cortés, antiguo alcalde de la localidad malagueña de Mijas, no tuvo ocasión de escapar de España. Tras un largo y peligroso camino de regreso a casa, consiguió llegar de noche a su casa sin ser descubierto. Su mujer, Juliana, le advirtió de los numerosos fusilamientos que se estaban llevando a cabo en el pueblo.

Breves referencias históricas:

Manuel Cortés Quero (1906 – 1991), conocido como “El topo de Mijas” fue el último alcalde republicano del Ayuntamiento de Mijas (Málaga) entre el 3 de marzo de 1936 y el 23 de noviembre de ese mismo año.

Con el estallido de la Guerra Civil, huye del municipio, al que regresa de incógnito la noche del 17 de noviembre de 1939, iniciando un largo confinamiento en su propio domicilio que duraría 30 años.

Cuando el 28 de marzo de 1969, escucha en su aparato de radio la noticia de que el Gobierno había concedido el perdón para los delitos cometidos desde el 18 de julio de 1936 y el 1 de abril de 1939, toma la decisión de abandonar su encierro.

Manuel Cortés Quero (1906 – 1991), was the last Republican Mayor of Mijas (Málaga) between 3 March, 1936 and 23 November of that year.

With the outbreak of the Civil War, he fled the town, to which he returned in disguise on the night of 17 November, 1939, beginning a long confinement in his own home that would last 30 years.

Sinopsis:

Dalia vive con su pequeño hijo Cosmo, separada del marido. Su vida cambia cuando tiene que confrontar el Alzheimer prematuro que le diagnostican a Lala, su madre, bióloga etnobotánica de la UNAM. Las buenas hierbas es un relato sobre la química del cerebro, la química de las plantas y de las emociones humanas. Da cuenta de los lazos invisibles que unen a los seres vivos con sus muertos; de la naturaleza que a todos nos envuelve -y a la que en última instancia pertenecemos. De la herencia herbolaria mexicana y del conocimiento ancestral de ciertas plantas que ayudan a curar el alma.

“¿Cuándo empezó a torcerse todo?”, se pregunta Salva en la barra del bar del hotel donde se celebra la feria más importante del sector. De vendedor estrella, a un paso del despido si en dos días no cierra al menos doscientas unidades. “¿Qué coño ha cambiado, Carmelo, que yo no me he enterado?”. Sentado junto a él, Carmelo, su antiguo jefe. Ambos contemplan atónitos el relevo generacional y la deslealtad de un sector que se muestra indiferente con aquellos que fueron imprescindibles

El director de ésta película Xavi Puebla, habla de la experiencia de trabajar con actores de la talla de Nick Nolte, “cuanta más experiencia tiene un actor más profesional es” dijo. Por su parte, Nolte comenta que películas como “A puerta fría” ya no se hacía en Hollywood y confesó que al principio se sentía asustado por grabar en España debido a la barrera lingüística. Según Puebla esto al final no supuso ningún problema puesto que Nolte prestaba gran atención a las indicaciones del director y consiguió hacer un gran trabajo a pesar de la diferencia idiomática.

A puerta fría ganó el premio al Mejor Actor y el Premio de la Crítica en el Festival de Cine de Málaga del 2012.

Synopsis:

As the pivotal character appearing in nearly every scene, prolific sevillano actor Antonio Dechent is the driving force of this perfectly pitched study of a desperate salesman facing financial ruin. His rapid moral decline makes captivating viewing, his brilliant performance is well supported by María Valverde (Ladrones) and Hollywood star Nick Nolte.

As a one-time salesman himself, director Xavi Puebla describes his theme as the tyranny of work and money coupled with merciless generational change, with characters from another era struggling to save themselves without sullying their souls.

The director of the film Xavi Puebla, talked about his experience of working with actors such as Nick Nolte, whilst filming in Seville. According to Nolte, films like this one are no longer made in Hollywood. Nolte confessed that he was terrified of filming in Spain due to the language barrier, but as Puebla commented, he paid attention to all the instructions doing a very good job despite the language problem, “ the more experienced the actor, the better professional”….

Sinopsis:

De lado del verano es una comedia que narra las andanzas y los problemas de una peculiar familia canaria. La película está protagonizada y dirigida por la actriz española Antonia San Juan, muy reconocida por Agrado, papel que interpretó en Todo sobre mi madre, de Pedro Almodóvar.

La vida rutinaria de una familia se ve alterada cuando el padre fallece. Una de sus hijas, Tana, tiene un sueño: volar lejos del entorno familiar pero… ¿cómo desertar de la familia sin perder a la familia? Y ¿cómo abandonar a la familia para poder ayudarla?

Curiosidades:

Se trata de la tercera película de la directora Antonia San Juan, en la que ella es también guionista y una de las principales protagonistas. La película está íntegramente grabada en Canarias, y según sus propias palabras cualquier canario podría reconocerse a sí mismo en alguno de los personajes. San Juan ha trabajado en la popular serie española “La que se avecina”, Siendo algunos de los actores de esta serie parte de “Del Lado Del Verano” como Luis Miguel Seguí o Macarena Gómez.

La película fue presentada en el Festival de Alicante dónde fue galardonada con la Tesela de Oro (premio principal), formó parte también de la última edición del Festival de Cine Español de Londres.

This is the third film that Spanish director Antonia San Juan, has also written and featured as the main actress. The film is located in the Canary Islandsand following her own words, any inhabitant of the islands watching it would easily recognize the stereotypes in themselves. She has been working for Spanish television in a very popular sitcom (La Que Se Avecina) and used some of the actors such as Luis Miguel Seguí and Macarena Gómez in this film.
This film has been presented in the Festival de Alicante, where it won the Tesela de Oro (main award) and also was showcased at the Spanish London Film Festival.
