Una nueva película está disponible en la biblioteca, Somos gente honrada, dirigida por Alejandro Marzoa.

A continuación os dejamos una crítica de esta comedia española dirigida extraída de El antepenúltimo mohicano:

Somos gente honrada es una comedia amable, que en ningún momento recurre al humor facilón o disparatado, logrando cierta sensación de verosimilitud en la historia que cuenta y en las acciones de sus personajes principales. Estamos ante un filme de nuestros días, que refleja muy eficazmente la situación límite a la que se enfrentan millones de parados por la falta de trabajo en España. Suso y Manuel son dos padres de familia gallegos a los que las cosas no les ha ido bien económicamente y se ven, pasados los cincuenta años, con escasas esperanzas de enfrentar el futuro. Mientras Manuel sufre en sus carnes la crisis en el sector de la construcción, Suso ha tenido que cerrar el kiosco que era la fuente de ingresos de su familia. En estas circunstancias extremas, el destino les pone en un dilema que pondrá a prueba su honradez. Una noche, mientras pescan, encuentran un paquete con diez kilos de cocaína.

Qué idiomas necesita el Reino Unido y por qué

La introducción a este trabajo de investigación del British Council lo deja muy claro: desde un punto meramente  lingüístico no hay lenguas que destaquen sobre otras, pero cuando se trata de invertir tiempo y esfuerzo en el aprendizaje de una de ellas, hay que escoger, y es entonces cuando entran en juego factores prácticos. No sólo los aprendices, sino también padres, políticos o contribuyentes en general desean saber en qué lenguas merece la pena invertir recursos y  esfuerzos  para que merezca realmente la pena

El informe analiza aspectos de tipo económico, cultural, diplomático, educativo…, en total 10 factores a partir de los cuales elabora una lista con las 10 lenguas más importantes para el Reino Unido:

Which languages the UK needs most and why

 “David Crystal has written passionately about the need to appreciate and understand the world’s linguistic heritage in the same way that we value its biological diversity. All languages are equal from a linguistic point of view. But when it comes to investing time, money and effort in the learning of languages, practical factors inevitably come into play. Politicians, taxpayers, parents and learners all want to be able to invest in those languages where their efforts and resources are going to prove most effective for their particular needs.” (..)

 “This publication seeks to take forward this analysis by identifying a number of criteria which can be used to aid the prioritisation of languages and has taken into account both market and non-market factors. Economic indicators have been balanced with cultural indicators, public interest in learning different languages, and the need to develop strong relationships for diplomatic, educational or strategic purposes.”

El invierno nos trae días cortos, fríos y con mucha lluvia y además parece que esta situación dura eternamente, dejándonos el ánimo algo bajo. Así que desde el Instituto Cervantes de Mánchester hemos decidido hacer algo para remediar esto, y os proponemos una serie de actividades que seguro harán más cálido y llevaderos estos meses.

Para aquellos que tengan una cierta inquietud a la hora de escribir,  os ofrecemos un taller de escritura donde realizar diferentes ejercicios de estilo,  expresar opiniones y aportar ideas sobre los trabajos elaborados en clase. (+)

Dentro del mundo de las palabras, otro taller girará en torno a los aspectos más interesantes y creativos de la traducción, donde con textos en inglés y español los participantes serán invitados a explorar sus propios recursos e intereses mediante la elaboración de diversos ejercicios. (+)

En un par de días os contaremos más remedios para el invierno, mientras, estaremos encantados de recibir los vuestros.

Winter brings sort, cold and rainy days making us feeling the Winter blues, so from Instituto Cervantes we have decided to do something about it and sort out the blues. We are proposing several activities that surely will warm up the British winter.

For those who have some kind of writing curiosity, we are pleased to offer you a creative writing workshop where different styles of exercises will be performed and participants will be able to express their views and give ideas about their works. (+)

Continuing in the world of words, there is another workshop which revolve around the most interesting and creative questions about translation. The participants will be encouraged to explore their own interests as translators practising with several exercises based on Spanish and English texts. (+)

 We will return in a couple of days with more tips for the winter. El día 12 de diciembre y desde las 6 de la tarde, el Instituto Cervantes de Mánchester organiza un día de puertas abiertas de cursos de baile. Habrá demostraciones de diferentes estilos como son el flamenco, el tango y la salsa. Todas las personas asistente podrán participar y disfrutar de estos ritmos guiados por un profesor.

No hace falta tener conocimientos previos, tan sólo ganas de aprender y disfrutar de estos estilos tan asociados al mundo cultural en español.

Acabaremos este día con un  gran concierto de salsa con el grupo cubano Cubavida que seguro hará que más de uno salga a bailar los ritmos caribeños y latinos.

El horario es el siguiente:

18.40 – 19.15 Demostración de baile FLAMENCO

19.20 – 19.55 Demostración de baile TANGO

20.00 – 21.00 Concierto de salsa con CUBAVIDA

On the 12th of December  and from 6.00pm, The Instituto Cervantes in Manchester organices an open day with the dance courses. There will be tasters of flamenco, tango and salsa. Everybody atending will be able to join and enjoy these sort of dances lead by a specialist teacher.

There is no need of previous knowledge of dancing only the wish to learn an  enjoy these sort of dances so associated to the world in Spanish.

To end up the day we will do it with a Salsa concert by the group Cubavida, where surely more tan one will not be able to stop their feet and will be dancing to the Latin and Caribbean rythm.

Timetable is as follows:

19.20 – 19.55 .Tango taster

Me gustaría contaros que  el próximo martes día 5 de octubre a las 19.30h tendrá lugar en el Instituto Cervantes de Madrid una cita literaria muy especial, y es que la escritora y periodista colombiana Laura Restrepo estará presente en el ciclo Encuentros en el Cervantes, una actividad que indaga en el perfil biográfico y creativo de los invitados, y en sus vínculos con la lengua y la literatura.

Laura Restrepo (Bogotá, 1950) tiene un amplia trayectoria en el mundo de la literatura con diversos premios como el Grinzane Cavour en 2006 por la obra Delirio o el Prix France Culture dado en 1998 por Dulce compañía.

Estos Encuentros podrán seguirse en directo a través de la página web del Instituto y en la página de Cultura del diario EL PAÍS.

Os animamos a que participéis con cualquier pregunta que os interese saber sobre esta fascinante autora y que podéis enviar a: cultura.madrid@cervantes.es

Let me please tell you that next Tuesday 5th of Ocober at 7.30pm, there will be an exciting literary meeting at Instituto Cervantes in Madrid, and this will be with Colombian writer and journalist Laura Restrepo. She will be taking part in the series Encuentros en el Cervantes, meetings designed to deepen into the biographical profile and creative side of the guests.

Laura Restrepo (Bogota, 1950) has a broad career in the world of  literature and has received several awards, such as The Grinzane Cavour in 2006 for the novel Delirio or The Prix France Culture given in 1998 for Dulce compañía.

These meetings or Encuentros can be followed live on página web del Instituto and also on the Cultural Page from Spanish newspaper, EL PAÍS.
