Tras el final de la Guerra Civil, Manuel Cort\u00e9s, antiguo alcalde de la localidad malague\u00f1a de Mijas, no tuvo ocasi\u00f3n de escapar de Espa\u00f1a. Tras un largo y peligroso camino de regreso a casa, consigui\u00f3 llegar de noche a su casa sin ser descubierto. Su mujer, Juliana, le advirti\u00f3 de los numerosos fusilamientos que se estaban llevando a cabo en el pueblo.<\/p>\n

Manuel Cort\u00e9s Quero (1906 – 1991), conocido como \u201cEl topo de Mijas\u201d fue el \u00faltimo alcalde republicano del Ayuntamiento de Mijas (M\u00e1laga) entre el 3 de marzo de 1936 y el 23 de noviembre de ese mismo a\u00f1o.<\/p>\n

Con el estallido de la Guerra Civil, huye del municipio, al que regresa de inc\u00f3gnito la noche del 17 de noviembre de 1939, iniciando un largo confinamiento en su propio domicilio que durar\u00eda 30 a\u00f1os.<\/p>\n

Cuando el 28 de marzo de 1969, escucha en su aparato de radio la noticia de que el Gobierno hab\u00eda concedido el perd\u00f3n para los delitos cometidos desde el 18 de julio de 1936 y el 1 de abril de 1939, toma la decisi\u00f3n de abandonar su encierro.<\/p>\n

Manuel Cort\u00e9s Quero (1906 – 1991), was the last Republican Mayor of Mijas (M\u00e1laga) between 3 March, 1936 and 23 November of that year.<\/span><\/p>\n

With the outbreak of the Civil War, he fled the town, to which he returned in disguise on the night of 17 November, 1939, beginning a long confinement in his own home that would last 30 years.<\/span><\/p>\n
