Santiago y Mercedes son un matrimonio de la alta burgues\u00eda. Ella es fr\u00edvola, ego\u00edsta y despreocupada con respecto a sus hijos. Como consecuencia de una deuda de juego se ve en el compromiso, por no acudir a su marido, de solicitar dinero prestado al gal\u00e1n Alfonso de Heredia, haci\u00e9ndole creer que tendr\u00e1 una recompensa carnal. El hijo de ambos, conocedor de la situaci\u00f3n, le pide un cheque al padre, pero \u00e9l se da cuenta de la verdadera finalidad y piensa que es Mercedes quien ha urdido el plan. Entonces se lo echa en cara y le ordena no volver a acercarse a los hijos. A partir de ese momento Mercedes comienza a ser consciente de su condici\u00f3n de madre y esposa.<\/span><\/div>\n

Santiago and Mercedes are an upper middle-class married couple. She is frivolous, selfish, and uncaring when it comes to their children .As a result of a gambling debt, she gets herself into a situation, because she does want to go to her husband, where she has to seek a loan from the heartthrob Alfonso de Heredia, leading him to believe that the payment will be sexual. Their son, knowing the situation, asks the father for a check, but he realizes the true purpose for the money and decides it is Mercedes who has hatched the plan. He throws the accusation in her face and orders her never to come near their children again.
