La idea original fue del escritor <span style=\"color: #800080\"><a title=\"Vicent Clavel Andr\u00e9s\" href=\"http:\/\/es.wikipedia.org\/w\/index.php?title=Vicent_Clavel_Andr%C3%A9s&amp;action=edit\"><span style=\"color: #800080\">Vicent Clavel Andr\u00e9s<\/span><\/a><\/span>, proponi\u00e9ndola a la C\u00e1mara Oficial del Libro de Barcelona. Poco despu\u00e9s, en 1930, se instaur\u00f3 definitivamente la fecha del 23 de abril como D\u00eda del Libro por su coincidencia con la muerte de Cervantes y el nacimiento o muerte de otros ilustres escritores internacionales.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em>In Spain, Book Day was officially celebrated for the first time on\u00a0 <span style=\"color: #800080\"><a title=\"7 de octubre\" href=\"http:\/\/es.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/7_de_octubre\"><span style=\"color: #800080\">October 7<\/span><\/a>,\u00a0 <a title=\"1926\" href=\"http:\/\/es.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/1926\"><span style=\"color: #800080\">1926<\/span><\/a><\/span>\u00a0to commemorate the death of Cervantes. The original idea was by the writer <span style=\"color: #800080\"><a title=\"Vicent Clavel Andr\u00e9s\" href=\"http:\/\/es.wikipedia.org\/w\/index.php?title=Vicent_Clavel_Andr%C3%A9s&amp;action=edit\"><span style=\"color: #800080\">Vicent Clavel Andr\u00e9s<\/span><\/a><\/span>, who proposing it to the Book Chamber of Barcelona. Soon after, in 1930, the definitive date of April 23 was established as the Day of the Book by its coincidence with the death of Cervantes and the birth or death of other prominent international writers.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #888888\">Tradicionalmente en Catalu\u00f1a el D\u00eda de San Jorge (en catal\u00e1n: <em>Diada de Sant Jordi<\/em>), 23 de abril, es el d\u00eda de la rosa y del libro: el D\u00eda del santo Patr\u00f3n, del amor y de la cultura, en el cual los enamorados se intercambian una rosa y un libro. Ahora ya no s\u00f3lo entre las parejas, sino tambi\u00e9n entre amigos, colegas\u00a0y familiares. Anteriormente las mujeres recib\u00edan una rosa y los hombres un libro. Desde hace ya d\u00e9cadas\u00a0 todo el mundo regala libro y rosa, indistintamente.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"color: #000000\">Traditionally in Catalonia, St George&#8217;s Day (in Catalan: Diada de Sant Jordi), on April 23, is the day of the rose and the book: the patron saint&#8217;s day of love and culture, in which people in love exchanged a rose and a book. Now the tradition is not only between couples, but also with friends and family. Previously women received a rose and men received a book, but for decades now everyone receives both a rose and a book<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #888888\">Se cree que la tradici\u00f3n de obsequiar en esta fecha con una rosa a la mujer amada se remonta probablemente al siglo XV. Algunas versiones hacen coincidir esta pr\u00e1ctica con la Feria de las rosas o de los enamorados que ten\u00eda lugar en <span style=\"color: #888888\">Barcelona<\/span>durante la primavera. Es en el siglo XVIII cuando se populariza el d\u00eda como una fiesta de exaltaci\u00f3n catalana y con el paso del tiempo se ha ido consolidado tambi\u00e9n como una jornada tradicional y festiva, extendida a toda Espa\u00f1a.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em>It is believed that the tradition of giving a rose on this date to the woman you love probably dates back to the fifteenth century. Some versions are matched with the Rose Fair for lovers that took place in Barcelona in spring.
