Nos gustaría invitaros a una película que pasamos esta semana en el Instituto Cervantes de Mánchester. Es una película especial y es además una auténtica historia de amor, de esas que no se suelen llevar ya a la pantalla.

Un  guión bueno, inteligente y bien desarrollado; una interpretación brillante con Lili Taylor y  Andrew McCarthy en sus papeles protagonistas. Yo creo que se podría destacar el papel de Lili Taylor (Ann), resulta convincente y conmovedora.

Ann, una dependienta de una tienda de fotografía, se ha trasladado a una ciudad que le es ajena para estar cerca de Bob-su novio-. Pero un día él la llama para cortar su relación con ella y Ann intenta suicidarse. Al salir del hospital encuentra apoyo gracias al teléfono de la esperanza, donde trabaja como voluntario Don. Éste está acostumbrado a escuchar los problemas de los demás, como remedo al olvido de los suyos propios. Se produce así un cruce de vidas donde ambos buscan lo mismo: el amor, pero  habrá un elemento que falta, esas cosas que nunca se dicen...

We would like to invite you to a cinema screening here at Instituto Cervantes this Thursday. A very special and what we could properly call a real film of love. One of those that are difficult to see nowdays at the movies.

A good and intelligent script with a wonderful interpretation by the two main characters Lili Taylor and  Andrew McCarthy. I would like to highlight on Tyler´s role as she is so convincing and moving.

Ann is a young woman who leads a quiet life selling photographic equipment in a Midwest town. She receives a call from her boyfriend who simply tells her he wants to end their relationship. Ann tries to commit suicide and when she leaves the hospital she has been treated, she will ring a telephone number she has been given, an Agony´s Aunt telephone, where she will find Don. 

Don  is used to listen to other people´s problems in order to forget his own ones. Their lives will then cross, both looking for the same: Love, but there will be something missing, those things that are never told….

 Too good to be missed!

¡Hola!

Me gustaría contaros que  el próximo martes día 5 de octubre a las 19.30h tendrá lugar en el Instituto Cervantes de Madrid una cita literaria muy especial, y es que la escritora y periodista colombiana Laura Restrepo estará presente en el ciclo Encuentros en el Cervantes, una actividad que indaga en el perfil biográfico y creativo de los invitados, y en sus vínculos con la lengua y la literatura.

Laura Restrepo (Bogotá, 1950) tiene un amplia trayectoria en el mundo de la literatura con diversos premios como el Grinzane Cavour en 2006 por la obra Delirio o el Prix France Culture dado en 1998 por Dulce compañía.

Estos Encuentros podrán seguirse en directo a través de la página web del Instituto y en la página de Cultura del diario EL PAÍS.

Os animamos a que participéis con cualquier pregunta que os interese saber sobre esta fascinante autora y que podéis enviar a: cultura.madrid@cervantes.es

Let me please tell you that next Tuesday 5th of Ocober at 7.30pm, there will be an exciting literary meeting at Instituto Cervantes in Madrid, and this will be with Colombian writer and journalist Laura Restrepo. She will be taking part in the series Encuentros en el Cervantes, meetings designed to deepen into the biographical profile and creative side of the guests.

Laura Restrepo (Bogota, 1950) has a broad career in the world of  literature and has received several awards, such as The Grinzane Cavour in 2006 for the novel Delirio or The Prix France Culture given in 1998 for Dulce compañía.

These meetings or Encuentros can be followed live on página web del Instituto and also on the Cultural Page from Spanish newspaper, EL PAÍS.

XIV Congreso WISPS

As you know  this conferenceo act as a focus for all those working in university departments in Great Britain and Ireland and the fields go from history, cultural memory, linguistics, literature, etc . A Little bit of everything and for everybody, always within the Luso-Hispanic cultures.

El miércoles pasado 23 de octubre,  organizamos en el Instituto Cervantes de Mánchester una velada literario gastronómica contando con dos invitados de excepción, como son el escritor peruano Jorge Eduardo Benavides y el escritor gastronómico José Manuel Iglesias bajo el título el sabor de la eñe.

 Ambos invitados nos deleitaron con citas literarias y recetas de cocina, acercándonos a los fogones y hábitos alimenticios de todos los países hispanohablantes y evidenciando el peso de la gastronomía en la escritura en lengua española

La tarde estuvo amenizada además por una maleta de aromas que José Manuel Iglesias nos fue desgranando poco a poco y que nos hizo pensar que  las cocinas tienen bastante de laboratorio químico, y que las diferentes recetas no sólo deleitan por el gusto y presentación sino que el aroma es un elemento fundamental.
