Con motivo del reciente fallecimiento de Tápies, el Instituto Cervantes de Nueva York rinde tributo a este artista catalán, uno de los mayores exponentes del informalismo a nivel mundial. En el marco de dicho homenaje se proyectará el documental TÀPIES, de Eusebio Lázaro, que muestra las últimas imágenes del pintor en su estudio. Además, artistas emergentes y personalidades reconocidas del mundo del arte contemporáneo reflexionarán sobre el impacto de su obra, llevados de la mano de la crítica Dore Ashton.

Encuentro con Dore Ashton (crítica de arte), Eusebio Lázaro (director), Robin Cembalest (Artnews) y los artistas Santi Moix, Amadeo Peñálver y Karim Márquez, quienes indagarán sobre la influencia de Tápies en el arte contemporáneo. Dicha mesa redonda constituye, además, la primera sesión de Hispa-York, un ciclo de encuentros que tendrán lugar una vez al mes, y que se configura como una plataforma que da a conocer las nuevas visiones de artistas hispanos residentes en Nueva York. La próxima cita será el 21 de junio, y versará sobre arte digital

A panel discussion and a Q&A with Dore Ashton, Eusebio Lázaro, Robin Cembalest (Artnews), and artists Santi Moix, Amadeo Peñalver and Karim Márquez will follow after the screening. They will examine the influence that Tàpies has had in contemporary art. This roundtable will be also the presentation of the first session of Hispa-York, a series of talks that will take place once a month with the objective of highlighting the new visions of Latin American artists based in New York. The next date of Hispa-York will be on June 21^st and will be about digital art

Amadeo Peñalver (España) y Karim Márquez (Venezuela), artistas residentes en Nueva York, rendirán tributo con sus pinturas al maestro español del informalismo. Las últimas pinturas de Peñalver han sido creadas a través de la performance, capturando la energía del presente. Los cuadros de Márquez se basan en el concepto de caos como un equilibrio de transformación material. El desarrollo de su obra se relaciona con el expresionismo abstracto.

Amadeo Peñalver (Spain) and Karim Márquez (Venezuela) are two artists based in New York. Both will pay tribute with their paintings to the Spanish master of artistic informalism. Amadeo’s latest paintings have been created through performance, capturing the energy of the here and now. Márquez’s paintings are based on the concept of chaos as a balance for material transformation. The evolution of his work is related to abstract expressionism.
