The ‘Jorge Luis Borges’ Library has a unique collection of films with extensive holdings from all periods of Spanish and Latin American cinema. As with the rest of the library collection, our film holdings are open to the public for anyone that is interested in research, or just interested in spending a nice afternoon watching a film in our quiet and welcoming facility. Membership is available for those that wish to borrow films.
Our film collection is made up of DVDs and VHS cassettes in both the NTSC and PAL formats. Included in our holdings are several Latin American films on VHS that are unique to our library and in many cases the only copies available in the U.S.
Don’t have a PAL DVD or VHS player? Our library has several viewing terminals equipped with multisystem DVD and VHS decks.
We have a smaller collection of popular TV series from Spain, these are mostly in the PAL format and range from comedies to dramas.
While not as comprehensive as our feature film collection, our curated selection of documentaries represents a diverse subject area.
Located in our film studies section, we have hundreds of books about the history of cinema throughout Latin America and Spain, as well as books about the influence of cinema on popular culture and literature. This collection of materials combined with our video recordings makes our library a crucial resource for anyone interested in studying Spanish language cinema.
From your favorite directors of classic Spanish language cinema to modern filmmakers, our collection of biographical and critical works is great for both beginners and those doing rigorous research.
