In collaboration with the Consulate General of Chile in New York
Tomás Harris ( La Serena, 1956) is considered one of the best Chilean contemporary poets. His book Cipango, published in 1992, earned an excellent critical reception in his country. Its recent translation into English has stirred the interest of North American literary critics as well. Rave reviews in journals such as BOMB, World Literature Today and Library Journal attest to the interest triggered by a collection of poems that travels back and forth between the past and the present of Chile.
Note: Due to unforeseen circumstances, Chilean poet Javier Campos (El astronauta en llamas) will participate in Tomás Harris´stead. There will be a bilingual in English and Spanish poetry reading by Shapiro and Campos, followed by an interview «in absentia» with Harris.
