Sinopsis: Dos miradas transcurre en un día, en el desierto de San Pedro de Atacama (Chile). Sofía y Laura deciden pasar allí sus vacaciones, disfrutar de la paz y tranquilidad que el lugar transmite. La armonía del espacio queda perturbada cuando entre ambas surge un encuentro sexual.

Sinopsis: Iván Z registra el encuentro de su realizador con el cineasta de culto Iván Zulueta que, locuaz, lúcido y con cierta desazón, rompe ante la cámara de Andrés Duque el hermético silencio que había mantenido durante años. Lejos de ser una hagiografía exhaustiva, el documental se centra en el universo creativo de un director clave en la vanguardia española que habla sin tapujos de los fetiches y obsesiones que alimentan su imaginario.

Sinopsis: La película cuenta la historia de Rosa, una mujer valiente y trabajadora que se enamora del hombre equivocado. Recorremos la evolución de su relación durante quince años en los que pasa de camarera a madame.

Sinopsis: Material. (Del lat. materialis). 1. adj. Perteneciente o relativo a la materia. 2. adj. Opuesto a lo espiritual. 3.adj. Opuesto a la forma. Esta alhaja es de poco valor material. 4. adj. Grosero, sin ingenio ni agudeza.

La ciudad de los signos / dirección y producción, Samuel Alarcón; guión, Samuel Alarcón con la colaboración de Mercedes Cebrián y Juan Pablo Heras ; fotografia, Javier Cardenete. [Madrid] :  Plat,  2009. 63 min.
Sinopsis: En marzo de 1980, César Alarcón viajó a Pompeya para llevar a cabo un ambicioso proyecto: recoger psicofonías de la gran erupción del Vesubio que acabó con la ciudad. Tras revisar todas las grabaciones,ninguna de ellas parece contener sonidos procedentes del año 79 d.C. Inesperadamente, en una de las cintas quedó registrada una extraña frase mucho más reciente y que César ya había escuchado en alguna parte. La ciudad los signos es un viaje a través de la filmografía del cineasta italiano Roberto Rossellini. Su cine fue un estilete que abrió la brecha por la que todo el cine moderno pasaría después.

La ciudad de los signos / dirección y producción, Samuel Alarcón; guión, Samuel Alarcón con la colaboración de Mercedes Cebrián y Juan Pablo Heras ; fotografia, Javier Cardenete. [Madrid] :  Plat,  2009. 63 min.
Sinopsis: In March of 1980, César Alarcón traveled to Pompeii to carry out an ambitious project to collect EVP of the great eruption of Vesuvius that destroyed the city. After reviewing all the recordings, none of them seems to contain sounds from 79 AD. Unexpectedly, one of the tapes was a strange phrase recorded much more recently and that César had heard somewhere. La ciudad de los signos is a journey through the films of Italian director Roberto Rossellini. His cinema was a stiletto that opened the breach through which all modern cinema would pass through.

These films are offered in addition to the over 2,400 titles currently available for download, loan, or streaming.

El próximo 26 de noviembre, martes, a las 6:30 tendremos con nosotros al escritor Lorenzo Silva junto con el profesor del Queens College Álvaro Fernández.

La editorial Hispabooks, creada recientemente, editorial independiente dedicada a traducir al ingles la mejor narrativa española contemporánea, presentará la traducción de la novela de Silva, La flaqueza del Bolchevique, en inglés The Faint-hearted Bolshevik.

Esta traducción está ya en la biblioteca, así como la novela original en español; y la novedad es que la traducción al inglés también se ha adquirido para la biblioteca electrónica del Instituto Cervantes que ya sabéis que puede tomarse en préstamo teniendo activada la clave de la membresía.

This coming Tuesday,  November 26th, at 6:30 PM we will have the pleasure of hosting writer Lorenzo Silva and Queens College Professor Álvaro Fernández .

Hispabooks, a new independent publisher dedicated to the translation of the best contemporary Spanish narrative works  into the English, will present the translation of Silva’s book, La flaqueza del Bolchevique, in English The faint-hearted Bolshevik.

The translation is available in our library, alongside the original Spanish edition; and for the first time also available in English through the Electronic Library of Instituto Cervantes, which can be borrowed with your membership card and activated password.
