It is with a very heavy heart that we have known of Sir John Elliott’s passing. An outstanding scholar and a great friend of Spain, where he will be greatly missed.

Sir John leaves behind an extraordinary intellectual legacy and a plethora of disciples in the British Academia as well as in Spain and the whole world.

We at Instituto Cervantes were honoured to have him opening the Tribuna del Hispanismo in 2017. And in these last few months he welcomed Ambassador Marco and our Director, Ignacio Peyró, in his Oxford home.

May he rest in peace. His disciples and readers in Britain and the Hispanic world will make sure his legacy is kept alive.
