At Instituto Cervantes we are conscious not only about the amazing ability of kids to learn but also about the potential of Spanish as a second international language in United States. España ha perdido a uno de sus grandes músicos, Paco de Lucía.  Por ello, desde nuestra biblioteca le rendimos homenaje.

Spain has lost one of its greatest artists, Paco de Lucía. This is why from our library we pay tribute to him.

El Instituto Cervantes, con la colaboración de NYU, organizará el próximo 22 de marzo de 10h a 14h la V Jornada para profesores de español sobre la enseñanza del español como lengua heredada dentro del contexto de enseñanza K-12.

¿Cómo adaptar una clase para estudiantes de español que han crecido con el idioma en casa? ¿Cómo mantener la atención de estos estudiantes en clase? ¿Qué contenidos se les puede enseñar?¿Cómo potenciar el hecho de que hablen dos lenguas teniendo en cuenta su componente afectivo? Éstas son algunas de las cuestiones que se tratarán en la próxima jornada de profesores.

Los ponentes son especialistas de la talla de Kim Potowski, profesora de lingüística hispánica en la Universidad de Illinois en Chicago, y Karen Beeman, formadora de maestros y directores a nivel nacional y miembro del Illinois Resource Center.

El curso combinará teoría y práctica y se hará especial hincapié en la reflexión. Además, todos los participantes recibirán un certificado de asistencia.

Instituto Cervantes in collaboration with NYU, this upcoming March 22nd from 10AM to 2PM will hold the 5th Workshop for Spanish teachers about the teaching of Spanish as a heritage language in grades K-12.

How do you design courses for Spanish students that have grown up with the language in their home? How do you keep these students engaged? What areas should you focus your lessons on? How do teachers maximize the benefit that these students speak both languages? These are just some of the questions that will be covered in this next workshop.

The speakers are experts in this field, and include Kim Potowski, Professor of Spanish Linguistics from the University of Illinois at Chicago, and Karen Beeman, educational specialist and advocate from the Illinois Resource Center.

The course will combine theory and practice and will provide specific emphasis on reflection. All participants will receive a certificate of participation.

Como todos los años llega el Winter break. ¿Con quién dejo a mis hijos? ¿Qué van a hacer durante este tiempo? Son las principales preguntas que los padres se hacen cuando nos aproximamos a estas fechas.

Estos días son unas mini- vacaciones para que nuestros peques puedan jugar, divertirse, pero también son una gran oportunidad para seguir aprendiendo. Por ello el Instituto Cervantes organiza un campamento desde el próximo 18 al 21 de febrero de 9h a 14h para que los niños (de 4 a 13 años )  aprendan o refuercen su español en un programa de inmersión total, donde éste será el único idioma.

Con una gran experiencia, nuestras profesoras Daniela (de Chile); Lola (de Argentina) Leyma (de Cuba) y María y Carmen (de España) serán las encargadas, con canciones, teatro , manualidades, vídeos y cuentacuentos entre otras técnicas de enseñanza, de transmitir nuestro idioma y la cultura hispánica.

Another Winter break will soon be upon us. And the same as every year parents are left wondering, Who do I leave my kids with? What are they going to do during this time?

Why not treat these days as little vacations for our little ones to play, enjoy themselves, but also seize the opportunity to continue learning. We’re here to help! Instituto Cervantes organizes a Spanish camp from starting the 18th until the 21st, from 9am to 2pm for kids (ages 4 to 13 ) to learn or improve their Spanish in a full inmersion program.

With great care and years of experience, our skilled teachers Daniela (from Chile); Lola (from Argentina) Leyma (from Cuba) and María and Carmen (from Spain) will lead the kids through songs, theatre, art crafts, videos, and storytelling among many other teaching tecniques that transmit the culture and language of Spanish.

Sinopsis: En marzo de 1980, César Alarcón viajó a Pompeya para llevar a cabo un ambicioso proyecto: recoger psicofonías de la gran erupción del Vesubio que acabó con la ciudad. Tras revisar todas las grabaciones,ninguna de ellas parece contener sonidos procedentes del año 79 d.C. Inesperadamente, en una de las cintas quedó registrada una extraña frase mucho más reciente y que César ya había escuchado en alguna parte. La ciudad los signos es un viaje a través de la filmografía del cineasta italiano Roberto Rossellini. Su cine fue un estilete que abrió la brecha por la que todo el cine moderno pasaría después.

Sinopsis: In March of 1980, César Alarcón traveled to Pompeii to carry out an ambitious project to collect EVP of the great eruption of Vesuvius that destroyed the city. After reviewing all the recordings, none of them seems to contain sounds from 79 AD. Unexpectedly, one of the tapes was a strange phrase recorded much more recently and that César had heard somewhere. La ciudad de los signos is a journey through the films of Italian director Roberto Rossellini. His cinema was a stiletto that opened the breach through which all modern cinema would pass through.
