El Instituto Cervantes y el Etxepare Euskal Institutua  firman el  primer acuerdo para promover y difundir la lengua y la cultura vascas. Sus respectivas directoras, Carmen Caffarel y Aitzpea Goenaga, han firmado hoy viernes en San Sebastián un convenio de colaboración por el que ambas instituciones organizarán conjuntamente actividades en los centros del Cervantes por todo el mundo.

Firma de acuerdo entre el IC y el Instituto Etxepare

El Instituto Etxepare ampliará su proyección exterior cuyo primer resultado será la oferta de clases de euskera en Nueva York, que acaban de iniciarse, son de 3 horas de duración y se impartirán un día por semana.

El Instituto Vasco ha  optado por Madrid, Bruselas y Nueva York como ciudades claves para desarrollar su actividad aunque su presencia se podrá extender en breve a otras ciudades.

En el Instituto Cervantes de Nueva York, Mari Jose Olaziregi, directora de promoción y difusión del euskera del  Etxepare Euskal Institutua, mantuvo una reunión con Eduardo Lago, director del ICNY y con el resto del equipo directivo Carmen Blánquez, directora de Académica, Javier Valdivielso, administrador, Juan David Marina, director de Actividades Culturales y María Vázquez, directora de la Biblioteca ‘Jorge Luis Borges’,  quien le  ofreció a continuación una visita por las dependencias del centro.

Una vez en la biblioteca la Sra. Olaziregi  se comprometió  a enviar libros y materiales de literatura, cultura y lengua vasca para completar el fondo bibliográfico ya existente, del que, por cierto, quedó agradablemente sorprendida dada la calidad y la selección de las obras disponibles.

El DEPARTAMENTO DE EDUCACIÓN DE LA CIUDAD DE  NUEVA YORK – New York City Department of Education – ofrece un curso de formación ‘Strengthening Pedagogical Practices Through an Understanding of Cultural and Historical Perspectives in Spanish Literature’ para profesores de lengua española dividido en 7 partes:  La época medieval; El siglo de oro; El romanticismo; El realismo y el naturalismo; El modernismo y posmodernismo; Literatura antes de la segunda guerra mundial (la vanguardia); Literatura después de la después guerra mundial (“boom” narrativa hispanoamericana).

Los talleres tendrán lugar en diferentes sedes el 19 de octubre, 17 de noviembre, 14 de diciembre, el 6 de enero, 10 de febrero, 3 y 31 de marzo. Son en lengua española y pueden ser complementados con alguna actividad cultural.

La primera parte del curso: La época medieval ha tenido lugar en las aulas de Académica del Instituto Cervantes de Nueva York, el 19 de octubre, y ha corrido a cargo de la Dra. Pilar Fernández, Asesora Técnica de la Asesoría de Educación del Consulado General de España en Nueva York.

La directora  de la Biblioteca ‘Jorge Luis Borges’,  María Vázquez, realizó una visita guiada a los profesores y les preparó una selección bibliográfica sobre literatura medieval española.

Whether you are a wine novice, a connoisseur, or a wine professional, Instituto Cervantes invites you to explore the fascinating world of wine through our comprehensive program of thirty three individual tasting seminars.

They take place weekly from September through June. Individual seminars focus on top wine regions, grape varieties, best vintages, wine topics, and cutting-edge wineries and winemakers. They also include our unique blind tastings, often bringing barrel samples of unreleased vintages, and frequently looking into new areas and wines yet to be discovered by the American press. Twelve different wines are sampled in each class featuring the top names from all the major wine producing areas of Spain and the world.

• Maximum 3 seats per person per seminar
• Maximum of 14 attendees per seminar (no waiting list)

Price & Payment

Single Tasting  $95  — 5% on the total cost when 6 tickets are bought together. Pay by check or debit and credit card (Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express).

Guitar: Mondays 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. $350

In this course, students will learn with Daniel García, a professional guitar player and instructor, how to play the instrument as well as learn about its history and repertoire. For beginners, the class will focus on learning simple guitar pieces through good sitting position, basic music theory and sight reading. For students with some experience, the class will focus on learning additional repertoire while developing good-finger technique.

Students must bring their own guitar. The course is taught in English.

Flamenco: Tuesdays 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. $350

In this course, Alfonso Cid, a professional flamenco singer, performer and teacher, will introduce students to flamenco, the passionate art form born in Andalusia from the crossbreeding of many cultures present in Spain all throughout history.

Students will learn about the history of flamenco and its development. They will be able to distinguish between the different styles; learn about the most influential artists of all time as well as vocal technique, basic music theory and even learn to sing.

No previous flamenco experience is needed, nor any knowledge of the Spanish language (although it is helpful). The course is given in English.
