Políticos, economistas y periodistas tejen unaneolengua que, como en la pesadilla de Orwell, reduce el polifacetismo y la complejidad del mundo a una jerga tecnocrática y opaca. La crisis gramatical que nos acecha se manifiesta como un quebranto tangible e inducido de la facultad de empalabrar la realidad, y aqueja a la mayor parte de la ciudadanía y de quienes la instruyen, informan y ordenan./Economists, Politicians and journalists have hatched a neo language, like in the book by Orwell, which reduce the multi-faceted and complexity of the world to a technocratic and unintelligible jargon. The present grammatical crisis that  is taking place, shows itself like an inducted and  tangible damage to the way words are use to tell reality and make up for  part of the jargon of the people who are  teaching it and publicising it.

Con la participación de Lluís Duch, profesor de Antropología de la Facultat de Ciències de la Comunicació de la Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, Albert Chillón, profesor universitario, ensayista y escritor, autor, entre otros libros, de La condición ambigua y Carmelo Machín, que fue corresponsal de Radio Televisión Española en Washington y en Moscú y anteriormente Jefe de la Sección Internacional y enviado especial en varios lugares del mundo, como el Golfo Pérsico, Chechenia, Ruanda o Sudáfrica../Round table discussion with the participation of Lluis Duch , Prof of Anthropology at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, Albert Chillón,  teacher and author of various books, and Carmelo Machín, special correspondent of RTVE (Public Spanish Television and Radio) in Washington and Moscow, Chief of the International Division and special reporter from various places in the world like the Persian Gulf, Rwanda and South Africa among others.

Música y músicos españoles se presentan en un ciclo de conciertos de mediodía en el Foundling Museum. Ahora, en su séptima temporada, el “Ciclo de Conciertos de Jóvenes Intérpretes de la New London Orchestra”, da cabida a algunas de las jóvenes promesas de la música clásica española que residen en el Reino Unido. Los conciertos tendrán lugar a la 1 de la tarde el primer jueves de cada mes/ Spanish music and musicians feature in a series of lunchtime recitals to take
place at the Foundling Museum. Now in its 7th year at the Foundling Museum, the New London Orchestra´s Young Performers Concert Series´ showcases some of the UK´s most promising young Spanish classical recitalists. Recitals take place at 1pm in the first Thursday of every month.

El Alma De La Roja repasa las diferentes épocas de la Selección Española de fútbol, de moda por su título en la  Eurocopa de Naciones de 2008 y su condición de favorita para el próximo Mundial de Sudáfrica de 2010. De la mano de Santiago
Zannou (ganador de un Goya a la mejor dirección novel por la película El Truco Del Manco), viajaremos a las diferentes épocas vividas con La Roja, desde los comienzos a principios del siglo pasado hasta nuestros días, a través de importantes protagonistas de la historia del fútbol como Di Stéfano, Ramallets, Pepe Claramunt, Víctor Muñoz, Luis Aragonés, Vicente Miera o Luis Sánchez, y más recientemente, los Torres, Villa, Senna, Casillas o Cesc sin olvidar un pasado reciente con Hierro, Gordillo, Butragueño, Luis Enrique y Zubizarreta, entre otros muchos.

The Soul Of The Reds, looks at different eras in the life of the Spanish football team, very much in fashion at the moment because of their Euro Cup 2008 victory and also because it is the favourite to win the World Cup in South Africa in 2010. Santiago Zannou (winner of a Goya award for best new director) takes us along through the different moments of the Reds’ story from their beginnings at the start of the last century up to this time with the help of important personalities in Spanish football history such as Di Stéfano, Ramallets, Pepe Claramunt, Víctor Muñoz, Luis Aragonés, Vicente Miera or Luis Sánchez and more recently Torres, Villa, Senna, Casillas and Cesc without forgetting the recent past with Hierro, Gordillo, Butragueño, Luis Enrique and Zubizarreta, among many others.

Se cree que, para bailar, todo el mundo tiene que ser joven, guapo, alto, esbelto. ¡Y una leche! La danza es exprimir un sentimiento a través de un movimiento, y lo puede hacer cualquiera,Antonio Gades.  Siguiendo esta premisa gadesiana, se crea un minitaller, impartido por bailarines de la propia compañía, destinado al público asistente a las distintas funciones del ballet Fuenteovejuna. El acercamiento a los bailes populares, que son la base que sustenta esta obra, supone una experiencia única para el público que ha asistido o asistirá a las representaciones programadas de esta pieza en el Sadler’s Wells. En español con traducción simultánea.

Some people think that to dance you need to be young, good-looking, tall and slim. Total rubbish! Dance is about expressing a feeling through movement, and anyone can do that,’ Antonio Gades. Based on this Gadesian theory, dancers from the company will put on a mini-workshop  for people interested in the performances of the ballet Fuenteovejuna. This introduction to the folk dances that form the basis of this piece, will be a unique experience for the audiences who have seen or plan to see the performances of this work at Sadler’s Wells. In Spanish with simultaneous translation.

Ciclo de lecturas dramatizadas y conferencias/Stage Reading & Lectures Series

El ciclo internacional Read Not Dead comienza analizando la influencia de los escritores españoles entre 1576 y 1642 y explorando los trabajos de los mejores dramaturgos de ese período, entre los que se encuentra Pedro Calderón de la Barca con su obra La vida es sueño. Estas lecturas dramatizadas serán acompañadas de conferencias que explorarán el trasfondo de las obras españolas y de los dramaturgos pertenecientes a la Edad de Oro española/The International Read Not Dead series starts looking at the influence of Spanish writers working between 1576 and 1642 by exploring works by some of the greatest Spanish dramatists from that period like La vida es sueño (Life is a Dream) by Pedro Calderón de la Barca.These staged readings will be coupled with lectures exploring the background to these Spanish plays and other playwrights of the Spanish Golden Age.

Con la par ticipación de Rodrigo Cacho Casal, profesor titular de Literatura y Cultura del Siglo de Oro en la Universidad de Cambridge. Sus temas principales de investigación son la literatura comparada, la poesía y la prosa burlesca, el poema heroicómico europeo y las obras de Francisco de Quevedo/With the attendance of Rodrigo Cacho Casal, senior Lecturer in Spanish Golden Age culture at Cambridge University. His principal research subjects are comparative literature, burlesque poetr y and prose, European mock-heroic poetr y and work of Francisco de Quevedo.

La conferencia Sebald tiene lugar anualmente y está enfocada a los diferentes aspectos de la traducción literaria. En esta ocasión  la conferencia la impartirá  Sean O’Brien, poeta, crítico literario y locutor de radio. A continuación  tendrá lugar la presentación de los premios de traducción literaria 2011 . Seis reconocidos premios de traducción, de larga tradición, poesía y ensayo, a partir de las originales en árabe, francés, alemán, italiano, español y hebreo. Sean O’Brien estudió En Cambridge (Selwyn College) y es profesor de escritura creativa de la Universidad de Newcastle. /The Society of Authors’ Translation Prizes and readings event is to be held at Kings Place, London on 6th February 2012. The prizes will be presented by Sir Peter Stothard of the TLS to the winning translators at the special readings event, held in conjunction with the annual Sebald Lecture. The lecture will be given by the poet Sean O’Brien.  Sean O’Brien was born in London, 1952 and grew up in Hull.  He was co-founder of the literary magazine The Printer’s Devil and contributes reviews to newspapers and magazines including the Sunday Times and the Times Literary Supplement. A regular broadcaster on radio, he presented, in an edition of BBC Radio 4’s ‘With Great Pleasure’, a selection of his favourite poems and prose including work by Charles Dickens, A. S. Byatt, Ovid and Shakespeare. He is now Professor of Creative Writing at Newcastle University and a Vice President of the Poetry Society.
