New Directions ha brindado generosamente una colección de los trabajos de César Aira traducidos al inglés. La donación incluye los siguientes títulos:

César Aira nació en Coronel Pringles, Argentina, en 1949 y ha vivido en Buenos Aires desde 1967. Fue profesor en la Universidad de Buenos Aires y enseñó sobre Copi y Rimbaud, al igual que  en la Universidad de Rosario sobre constructivismo y Mallarmé y ha traducido y editado libros de Francia, Inglaterra, Italia, Brasil, España, México, y Venezuela. Quizás uno de los escritores mas prolíficos de Argentina, y sin duda uno de los mas conocidos en Latinoamérica, Aira ha publicado más de ochenta libros hasta la fecha en Argentina, México, Colombia, Venezuela, Chile y España, los cuales han sido traducidos para Francia, Gran Bretaña, Italia, Brasil, Portugal, Grecia, Austria, Rumania, Rusia y ahora para los Estados Unidos. Una novela, La prueba, fue convertida en un largometraje y  Cómo me hice monja fue elegida como uno de los mejores 10 libros en Argentina. Además de ensayos y novelas, Aira escribe constantemente para el periódico español El País. En 1996 recibió la beca Guggenheim, y en el 2002 fue seleccionado para el premio Rómulo Gallegos.

New Directions has generously donated a collection of the works of César Aira in English translation. The donation included the following titles:

César Aira was born in Coronel Pringles, Argentina in 1949, and has lived in Buenos Aires since 1967. He taught at the University of Buenos Aires (about Copi and Rimbaud) and at the University of Rosario (Constructivism and Mallarmé), and has translated and edited books from France, England, Italy, Brazil, Spain, Mexico, and Venezuela. Perhaps one of the most prolific writers in Argentina, and certainly one of the most talked about in Latin America, Aira has published more than eighty books to date in Argentina, Mexico, Colombia, Venezuela, Chile, and Spain, which have been translated for France, Great Britain, Italy, Brazil, Portugal, Greece, Austria, Romania, Russia, and now the United States. One novel, La prueba, has been made into a feature film, and How I Became a Nun was chosen as one of Argentina’s ten best books. Besides essays and novels Aira writes regularly for the Spanish newspaper El País. In 1996 he received a Guggenheim scholarship, and in 2002 he was short listed for the Rómulo Gallegos prize. –Courtesy of New Directions

About New Directions:
New Directions was founded in 1936, when James Laughlin (1914 – 1997), then a twenty-two-year-old Harvard sophomore, issued the first of the New Directions anthologies. «I asked Ezra Pound for ‘career advice,'» James Laughlin recalled. «He had been seeing my poems for months and had ruled them hopeless. He urged me to finish Harvard and then do ‘something’ useful.»

These words notwithstanding, the life of Chilean writer Isabel Allende is full of professional achievements. Her first novel published in 1982, “The house of the spirits”, has became a bestseller and one of the most famous titles of the Latin-American literature. Isabel Allende has sold more than 60 million books and won more than 50 international awards. Her novels have been translated to more than 35 languages. Y como siempre, el AVE también piensa en los niños entre 9 y 13 años, que con el material didáctico disponible pueden interesarse por el aprendizaje de nuestro idioma.

How? 

Through our Aula Virtual de Español (AVE) you have a virtual classroom that spans the entire Instituto Cervantes curriculum. There you will have access to lessons and exercises, with comprehensive educational material and activities that guide you and provide answers and explanations along the wat. Users also have access to a variety of strengthening exercises and complementary material for phonetics, grammar, vocabulary and more!

 With AVE you could study every level, from the beginner to advanced and you will do it in a fun way, through multimedia content: videos, news, cultural programs, documentaries, etc.

And of course AVE has been also been designed for kids from ages 9-13. Through our didactic material your children will gain knowledge and interest of Spanish that will enrich them in school and throughout their lives.

En el Instituto Cervantes de Nueva York, trasladaremos la cultura de la tapa al centro de Manhattan para que puedas aprender las tapas más características de las diferentes ciudades españolas.

Además también trasladaremos tres postres típicos del Norte de España: peras al vino, tejas de Tolosa y leche frita de Pamplona. Tres platos que te ayudarán a incrementar tu lista de postres y que puedas decir “Yo llevo el postre” cuando te inviten a una cena.

At Instituto Cervantes of New York, we bring the tapas culture to the center of Manhattan so you can learn about the most iconic tapas from different Spanish cities.
