Con motivo del Día de la Hispanidad, el Instituto Cervantes de Dublín se complace en presentar de nuevo sobre su escenario del Café Literario al afamado guitarrista clásico irlandés Alan Grundy. Te esperamos hoy día 11 de octubre a las 20:00 h en el Café Literario.

Inspiración Española – un recital de guitarra a cargo del guitarrista Alan Grundy, compuesto por piezas inspiradas en el baile, la canción, la poesía, la pintura, los nombres y lugares de España. Desde danzas cortesanas de los siglos XVI y XVII de los compositores Diego Pisador, Alonso Mudarra y Gaspar Sanz (tocadas por Alan con vihuela y guitarra barroca) a piezas del siglo XIX de Albéniz y Tárrega inspiradas en nombres y lugares de España. El repertorio incluye también dos piezas originales compuestas por Alan Grundy, Día de España y The Old Guitarrist / La Guitarra.

‘Spanish Inspiration’ – A Guitar Recital by guitarist Alan Grundy featuring guitar works inspired by Spanish Dance, Song, Poetry, Painting, Names and Places. From Court Dances of the 16th and 17th Centuries by Diego Pisador, Alonso Mudarra and Gaspar Sanz (played by Alan on Vihuela and Baroque Guitar), to 19th Century pieces inspired by Spanish names and places by Albeniz and Tarréga. The Recital will also feature two original works by Alan Grundy – Dia de España and The Old Guitarist / La Guitarra.

Hoy tenemos a las 8 de la tarde un concierto muy especial en el Café Literario. Acércate a disfrutar del homenaje que el  guitarrista Alan Grundy, especialista en la obra del músico español Andrés Segovia, ha preparado para conmemorar los 25 años de la muerte del maestro Andrés Segovia. Alan Grundy ofrecerá un concierto de guitarra clásica española con trabajos que abarcan desde el Renacimiento español hasta el presente.

Alan Grundy es un destacado guitarrista y profesor de guitarra. Ha ofrecido numerosos conciertos en Irlanda y en Europa. Destaca el concierto Ireland’s Tribute to Segovia, que tuvo lugar en la Hugh Lane Gallery para conmemorar el centenario del nacimiento del maestro español Andrés Segovia. Ha publicado dos CD: Premiere Recordings from the 19th and 20th Centuries y Dedications. Ha realizado también programas para la radio y la televisión (R.T.E.) además de los dos programas dedicados a la vida de Andrés Segovia en lyric FM.

Today we have a very special concert at 8pm at Café Literario. Join us to pay tribute and commemorate the 25th anniversary of the death of the Spanish musician Andrés Segovia. Alan Grundy will offer a Spanish classical guitar concert spanning compositions from the Spanish Renaissance to the present day.

Alan Grundy is a renowned Irish guitar player and teacher. He has given numerous concerts around Ireland and Europe, most notably Ireland’s Tribute to Segovia that took place in Hugh Lane Gallery to commemorate the centenary of the maestro’s birth. He has released two CDs: Premiere Recordings from the 19th and 20th Centuries and Dedications. He has also produced programs for radio and RTE, further to two programs dedicated to the life of Andrés Segovia on Lyric FM.

¿ Te gusta cantar?  Si siempre has deseado pertenecer a un coro, ahora tienes la oportunidad de unirte al “Coro Cervantes Dublin” el único en Irlanda expresamente especializado en el repertorio coral español, latinoamericano y en el repertorio en español de compositores de otra procedencia.

El coro se familiarizará con la técnica vocal y el estilo particular ligados a la música polifónica, además de aprender la pronunciación del latín histórico hispánico (obras antiguas en latín) y de la lengua castellana.

Como director del coro contamos con Eligio Luis Quinterio. Actualmente es director artístico de los grupos Capilla Cayrasco y Camerata Cayrasco, ofrece recitales como solista y como acompañante de canción barroca y lied romántico, y es miembro de numerosos grupos como especialista en bajo continuo.

Del catorce al quince de abril tendrán lugar las audiciones en el Café Literario, os animamos a que participéis en esta interesante e enriquecedora experiencia.

Do you like singing? If you have always wished to belong to a choir, you have the chance now to join the “Choir Cervantes”, the  unique choir inIreland  specialized in Spanish and Latin American choral repertoire and the repertoire of other Spanish composers.

The choir will get familiar with vocal technique and the style particularly associated with polyphonic music apart from learning the pronunciation of Hispanic and historical Latin (old musical compositions in Latin) and the Spanish language.

The members of the choir would learn subtleties of the Spanish language and delve into the rich and extensive musical literature and Spanish culture.

Eligio Luis Quinteiro will be the  choir director. He is the  artistic director of the groups Capilla Cayrasco and Camerata Cayrasco and gives solo recitals and accompanies songs with the tiorba and guitar. He is also a member of numerous groups as a specialist in bass.

Auditions will take place the 14th and 15th April at the Cafe Literario.  We encourage you to take part in this interesting and enriching experience.

Si quieres practicar tu español a través de la música, te proponemos este taller interactivo en el que aprenderás y mejorarás tu español de forma entretenida y en una atmósfera relajada.  

En las sesiones se  trabajarán diferentes canciones en español por medio de audiciones, contextualización del autor y estilo, traducción y comprensión de las letras, discusión y profundización de usos de expresiones idiomáticas y por supuesto, interpretación del tema.

Dirigido a alumnos de cualquier nivel dispuestos a pasar un buen rato con ganas de aprender, participar y por supuesto cantar. Estará impartido por el músico y compositor Fernando Blanco Vicente.

If you want to practise your Spanish through songs, we offer you this workshop in which you can practise and improve your Spanish in an entertaining way and with a great atmosphere.

This is your opportunity thanks to this interactive workshop that will enable you to improve your Spanish through music. The sessions will offer you the opportunity to work with Spanish songs, listen to the music and explore the author and his/her style in context. You will work on translation and lyrics comprehension, discussion, exploration of sayings and phrases and, of course, song interpretation! Learn and practise your Spanish in a relaxed and fun environment.

Designed for students of any level who want to have fun while learning, participating and, of course, ‘singing’. It will be taught by Spanish music and composer Fernando Blanco Vicente.

Most of us are thinking of that secret admirer who will surprise us with a love poem, will sing  the song which played that special day, or will invite us to a romantic dinner with candles….While we look foward to it, here at the Cervantes Library we have chosen  some love poems and one lyric song . What we propose is that you send us that poem that makes you yearn or any lyric song which does your heart beat really fast  when you listen to it. Miguel Hernández (1910-1942) forma parte de esa lista negra de insignes poetas y escritores a los que la Guerra Civil Española sesgó la vida y con ella una brillante trayectoria en la literatura. No hizo falta que se ejecutara su sentencia de muerte, la insalubridad de la cárcel de Alicante, a la que había sido confinado por su participación en el frente republicano, se lo llevó a los 32 años.

A pesar de su temprana muerte, su precocidad en las letras y su tenacidad incluso en las condiciones más duras nos han dejado un amplio repertorio de poemas y obras de teatro que os invitamos a conocer durante este mes en nuestra biblioteca. Es imprescindible hurgar también en la sección musical porque muchos autores han converitdo sus poemas en canciones: Joan Manuel Serrat, Víctor Jara, Enrique Morente, Camarón dela Isla, Extremoduro, etc. Además, el 20 de febrero el Café Literario será escenario de En otra voz: Homenaje a Thomas MacGreevy y Miguel Hernández.

Siendo vástago de familia humilde, la formación de Miguel Hernández fue prácticamente autodidacta como voraz lector de poesía clásica española. Una vez prendida en él la llama literaria, se hace asiduo de las tertulias de su Orihuela natal y en 1930 se traslada a Madrid, donde entra en contacto con los poetas de la generación del 27. En ese mismo año empiezan a publicarse sus obras, en cuya evolución intervienen el barroco, el surrealismo, los movimientos obreros, las penurias de la guerra, la cárcel… En ellas dejó plasmados su  humanidad, sus convencimientos ideológicos, su alto sentido de la justicia y su amor al pueblo. Como diría su amigo Pablo Neruda, “recordar a Miguel Hernández que desapareció en la oscuridad y recordarlo a plena luz, es un deber de España, un deber de amor”.

Miguel Hernández (1910-1942) is part of the black list of prominent writers and poets whose lives and brilliant literary careers were cut short by the Spanish Civil War. He was sentenced to death; however the insalubrious conditions in the prison of Alicante, where he had been confined to for his involvement in the republican front, took his life earlier at the age of 32.

In spite of passing away so young, his early interest for literature and tenacity even in the hardest times made him produce a wide range of poems and plays which we invite you to discover during this month at our library. We highly recommend to take a look also at the music section, as many of his poems have been converted into songs by famous singers: Joan Manuel Serrat, Víctor Jara, Enrique Morente, Camarón dela Isla, Extremoduro, etc. Furthermore, on February 20^th we carry out at Café Literario the event In a different voice, a tribute to Miguel Hernández and Irish poet Thomas MacGreevy.

Coming from a humble family, Miguel Hernández was a self-taught who virtually got his education by avidly reading Spanish classical poetry. Once he was captivated by the books, he started to attend the literary circle of his home town, Orihuela, and in 1930 he moved to Madrid, where he got in contact with writers from the generation of 1927. His books started to be published on that same year and they’re influenced by Spanish baroque, surrealism, the labour movements, the hardships of war, the prison… His writings are a reflection of his humanity, his ideals, his high sense of justice and his love for the people. Quoting his friend Pablo Neruda, “it is a duty of Spain, a duty of love, to remember Miguel Hernández in broad daylight, as he disappeared in the dark”.

Sole Giménez, excelente autora y vocalista de las más admiradas del panorama hispanoamericano que ha visitado diversos estilos a lo largo de su dilatada carrera, el soul, el blues, la bossa, el pop, etc. Actualmente desarrolla sus discos en el estilo Latín Jazz con gran éxito de crítica y público.

Tiene editados 4 discos a su nombre y 11 discos con su anterior formación Presuntos implicados con la que actuó en decenas de países y obtuvo grandes premios entre otros vender tres millones de discos. Ha colaborado con incontables artistas y músicos de la talla de Joan Manuel Serrat, Herbie Hancock, Chano Dominguez, Ana Belen, Milton Nascimento, Jaques Morelembaum, etc.

One of the most admired artists in Spanish and Latin-American music, Sole Giménez has experimented with numerous genres throughout her extensive career, including soul, blues, bossa nova, pop and most recently, latin jazz.

She has released 4 individual albums Ojalá (2004), La felicidad (2008), Dos gardenias (2009) and Pequeñas cosas (2011), further to 11 albums recorded with her band Presuntos implicados. She has performed with artists like Joan Manuel Serrat, Herbie Hancock, Milton Nascimento, Randy Crawford, Armando Manzanero, Pancho Céspedes, Ana Torroja, Miguel Ríos, Ana Belén, Revólver, Piratas, among many others.

Helena y Nora son un dúo de ukeleles que se formó a raíz del interés común por este pequeño instrumento de Hawaii. En su repertorio incluyen melodías mexicanas, hawaianas y antiguas canciones del folk americano anterior a los años 30.

¡Ven a verlas tocar el día 23, en el Instituto Cervantes, durante la Noche Blanca de Dublín!

Helena and Nora are a Ukulele duet that plays a nice blend of Mexican, Hawaiian and Old American Ditties from times long gone.  It was the love for this little instrument from Hawaii that brought them together.

En el Instituto Cervantes de Dublín, Carlos Núñez nos presenta en persona su último proyecto, Alborada do Brasil, resultado de más de tres años de pesquisas por Brasil.

El 15 de marzo Carlos Núñez ofrecerá un concierto en el National Concert Hall.

Instituto Cervantes Dublin will host Carlos Núñez with his recent project Alborada do Brasil, a result of a  three-year exploration of Brazil.

Carlos Núñez plays life at the National Concert Hall on March 15th.
