No es solo año de conmemoración de los genios de la literatura Cervantes y Shakespeare, y uno de los máximos exponentes de la poesía hispana Rubén Darío; 2016 marca también 100 años del fallecimiento del compositor y pianista clásico Enrique Granados (1867-1916), con un repertorio musical interpretado a lo largo y ancho del mundo. Su danza española número 5, o «Andaluza», es solo un ejemplo del alcance de la obra de este destacado hombre:

2016 does not mark just the fourth centenary of the passing of majestic authors Miguel de Cervantes and William Shakespeare, as well as one of the maximum exponents of Hispanic poetry Ruben Dario;  it is also the year to commemorate 100 years of the death of Spanish composer and classical pianist Enrique Granados (1867-1916). Over a lifetime, Granados achieved a repertoire which has been both praised and played the world over; the renowned Spanish dance number 5 or Andaluza is just an example of the richness of this man’s outstanding work:

In order to commemorate Enrique Granados’s meaningful body of work in the 100 anniversary of his death (2016) and leading up to the 150 anniversary of his birth next year (2017), several events are being put together across London, some taking place as early as next week. Are you free to join us?

Trevor Dadson es profesor de Estudios Hispánicos en la Universidad Queen MAry en Londres. Es editor jefe del «Hispanic Research Journal». También dirige el consejo editorial de «Studies in Hispanic and Lusophone Cultures», una nueva colección de escritos publicada por Legenda (Oxford). Sus monografías más recientes incluyen un relevante estudio en español de los moriscos del Campo de Calatrava en España (2007). En la actualidad, se encuentra trabajando en una edición de las más de 500 letras que el conde de Salinas enviara como Viceroy desde Lisboa entre 1617 y 1622. Es miembro del consejo de la Asociación de Hispanistas de Gran Bretaña e Irlanda. Ha coordinado investigaciones tanto sobre la Edad de Oro española como sobre poesía contemporánea española. Es miebro de la Academia Británica desde 2008.

Esta reunión-conversación será moderada por Julio Crespo MacLennan, director del Instituto Cervantes de Londres, y se dará en inglés con traducción simultánea a español.

Trevor Dadson is Professor of Hispanic Studies at Queen Mary University, London. He is Editor-in-Chief of the «Hispanic Research Journal». He also chairs the Editorial Board of «Studies in Hispanic and Lusophone Cultures», a new series of texts published by Legenda (Oxford). His recent monographs include a major study in Spanish of the Moriscos of the Campo de Calatrava in Spain (2007). At the moment he is working on an edition of the more than 500 letters the Count of Salinas sent as Viceroy from Lisbon between 1617 and 1622. He is a member of the Board of the Association of Hispanists of Great Britain and Ireland. He has supervised research on both the Spanish Golden Age and contemporary Spanish poetry. Since 2008 he has been a Fellow of the British Academy.

This interesting conversation will be conducted by Julio Crespo MacLennan , director of the Instituto Cervantes London. Though it will be held in English, simultaneous translation into Spanish will be available on request.
