Este año el East End Film Festival presenta un ejemplo de la nueva forma de entender el cine: «Dead slow ahead«, un documental premiado en el Locarno International Film Festival, un exponente del mejor y más experimental nuevo formato internacional, de dirección y producción españolas.

El próximo domingo 26 de junio y en colaboración con el Open City Documentary Festival, «Dead slow ahead» se emitirá en el Instituto de Arte Contemporáneo de Londres. Todavía quedan entradas – la organización recomienda reservar por adelantado.

This year, London’s East End Film Festival presents some innovative paths in filmmaking. An example: Dead Slow Ahead, a documentary turned horror science fiction, awarded at the Locarno International Film Festival.

Dead Slow Ahead is an edgy take on storytelling, directed and produced by Spanish professionals. This coming Sunday 26 June, in collaboration with Open City Documentary Festival, Dead Slow Ahead will screen at the Institute of Contemporary Arts in London.

¿Cómo construir una vida por medio de una película? ¿Cómo influyó el sistema de valores de la Residencia de Estudiantes de Madrid -donde vivieran Luis Buñuel, Federico García Lorca y Salvador Dalí a principios de la década de 1920- en el trabajo de los tres artistas? Para sellar la temporada cinematográfica del ICA «Luis Buñuel: estética de lo irracional», reunimos a un grupo de expertos en cultura con el fin de analizar la relación particular de Lorca, Buñuel y Dalí, y la forma de la que artistas y directores de cine han intentado captar tanto la estética revolucionaria de los tres artistas como su valiosísimo legado cultural.

El actor Nickolas Grace (quien diera vida a Lorca en el largometraje de Bardem en 1995, «Lorca, muerte de un poeta»), los directores Mike Dibb (El espíritu de Lorca, BBC Arena 1986; La fama y humillación de de Salvador Dalí, BBC Arena 1996) y Pablo Romero (Universidad de Roahampton, actualmente inmerso en un nuevo proyecto sobre Las Hurdes de Buñuel junto con Dibb), y la académica y traductora Sarah Wright (Royal Holloway, University of London), se reúnen con María Delgado (Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, University of London) para hablar de la cultura, biografía y legado de Buñuel, Dalí y Lorca.

What does it mean to construct a life through film? How did the unique ethos of Madrid’s Residencia de Estudiantes where Luis Buñuel, Federico García Lorca and Salvador Dalí all lived during the early 1920s influence the creative work of all three artists? To mark the ICA’s ‘Luis Buñuel: Aesthetics of the Irrational’ film season, this panel brings together a group of different cultural critics to examine the unique relationships between Lorca, Buñuel and Dalí, and the ways in which artists and filmmakers have sought to ‘capture’ both the ground-breaking aesthetics of the three artists and their unique cultural legacy.

Actor Nickolas Grace (who played Lorca in Bardem’s 1995 film Lorca, muerte de un poeta), filmmakers Mike Dibb (The Spirit of Lorca, BBC Arena 1986; The Fame and Shame of Salvador Dalí, BBC Arena 1996) and Pablo Romero (University of Roehampton, currently working on a new film on Buñuel’s Las Hurdes with Dibb), and academic and translator Sarah Wright (Royal Holloway, University of London) join Maria Delgado (Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, University of London) to discuss the culture, biography and legacy of Buñuel, Dalí and Lorca.

La tercera temporada de Exhibition On Screen arranca con un documental basado en la emblemática exhibición «Goya: The Portraits» de National Gallery, en cines de todo el país a partir del 1 de diciembre de 2015.

Goya – Visions of Flesh and Blood trae a la gran pantalla por primera vez la complicada vida y extraordinaria capacidad artística de Francisco de Goya.

Además de dar acceso privilegiado a la reconocida exhibición «Goya: The Portraits», la película pinta un retrato cautivador del propio artista a través de las observaciones hechas por expertos internacionales, las obras de arte de conocidas colecciones y las visitas a las localidades españolas en las que vivió y trabajó el artista.

Desde la butaca, el público accederá en primicia a la exhibición de la National Gallery de la mano del curador Xavier Bray. Grabada en alta resolución y con una calidad exquisita, esta colección de obras destacadas mostrará el talento de Goya como retratista y comentarista social. El rodaje adicional relatará el proceso de conservación y selección, esencial en la composición de esta grabación única. La película les ofrece a aquellos que no han tenido ocasión de asistir a la exhibición en Londres la posibilidad de apreciar el trabajo de primera clase de Goya desde el confort del cine. A la vez, el documental es una extensión complementaria de la visita a la galería, ofreciendo una inmersión detallada en estas obras, analizando otras no incluidas en la colección y facilitando el contexto histórico y crítico que las enriquece.

Goya – Visions of Flesh and Blood repasa en detalle la ajetreada vida de Goya durante más de 80 años, explorando su obra artística y revelando las últimas datos arrojados por investigaciones biográficas. Algunos de los trabajos más queridos del artista se inspiran en varios lugares a lo largo y ancho de España, desde los campos sevillanos hasta las capillas y palacios de Madrid, y todos ellos aparecen en la película. A través de la misma, el público también podrá visitar el Museo Nacional del Prado en Madrid, que muestra varias obras relevantes de Goya incluyendo «la familia de Carlos IV», las cuales contribuyen a ilustrar su relación con la alta sociedad española.

Tener acceso con carácter excepcional al «cuaderno italiano» de Goya, un cuaderno de dibujos hecho por el pintor en Italia entre 1769 y 1771, acercará a los espectadores a sus momentos de reflexión más íntimos. Al mismo tiempo, las entrevistas con los artistas Dryden Goodwin y Nicola Philipps (quien pintara el retrato de SSMM los príncipes Guillermo y Enrique) ayudarán a entender más en detalle la psicología del retratista español.

Season 3 of Exhibition On Screen launches with a feature-length documentary film, based on the landmark exhibition Goya: The Portraits at the National Gallery. In cinemas nationwide from 1 December 2015

Goya – Visions of Flesh and Blood will bring the dramatic life and extraordinary artistry of Francisco Goya to the big screen for the first time.

As well as providing unrestricted access to the acclaimed exhibition Goya: The Portraits, the film builds a compelling portrait of the artist himself through insights from international experts, masterpieces from renowned collections and visits to the locations in which Spain’s most celebrated artist lived and worked.

Audiences will enjoy a front row seat to the National Gallery’s exhibition, guided by lead curator Xavier Bray. Filmed in exquisite high-resolution, this collection of outstanding works will reveal Goya’s gift as a portraitist and social commentator. Additional behind-the-scenes footage will uncover the processes of conservation and curation integral to staging this once-in-a-lifetime show. The film allows those unable to attend the exhibition to appreciate Goya’s world-class art in the comfort and convenience of their local cinema. Equally, the documentary acts as a complementary extension to a gallery visit, immersing the viewer in the artwork up close, analysing works not included in the exhibition and providing illuminating historical and critical context.

Goya – Visions of Flesh and Blood will look in depth at Goya’s eventful life spanning more than 80 years, exploring his artistic oeuvre and the latest in biographical research. Extensive location footage, from the beautiful countryside of Seville to the grand chapels and royal palaces of Madrid, traces the inspiration behind, and settings for, some of Goya’s best-loved works. The film also allows the audience to step inside the Museo Nacional del Prado in Madrid, presenting a number of significant Goya holdings including ‘The Family of Carlos IV’, which further illuminate his relationship to Spanish high society.

Rare access to Goya’s ‘Italian Notebook’, a sketchbook made in Italy between 1769-71, will connect viewers to Goya’s most intimate moments of reflection. They will also gain a closer  understanding of the psychology of the portrait painter through interviews with esteemed modern artists Dryden Goodwin and Nicola Philipps, who has painted the portrait of TRH’s Princes William and Harry.

El Instituto Cervantes de Londres acoge la proyección de algunos títulos en cada edición, seguidas por un taller lingüístico que gana adeptos año tras año. En esta ocasión, tenemos preparada una selección de trabajos maravillosos de cineastas hispanoparlantes, que dan enfoques inéditos a temas atractivos.

Into Film Festival is a free and annual celebration of film and education for 5-19 year olds across the UK. The Instituto Cervantes hosts the screening of a few titles each year, followed by a language workshop which is proving successful year after year. In 2015, we are in for a treat on behalf of Spanish-speaking cinema artists, who give appealing topics a new twist.

Por primera vez, en el London Spanish Film Festival se hablará del papel de la península ibérica en la gastronomía mundial el próximo martes 29 de septiembre. El documental “Snacks: Bites for a Revolution” es un sencillo video que narra la vida y trabajo de los chefs españoles que han mostrado al mundo que el epicentro de la creatividad culinaria se encuentra en España.

Tras la proyección del documental, se celebrará una mesa redonda moderada por el director de la Oficina de Turismo de España en Londres, don Enrique Ruiz de Lera, en la que se hablará de la revolución gastronómica española y su influencia en la evolución de la cocina a nivel mundial. Si disfrutas de la cocina y la gastronomía, o si deseas incrementar tu rango de vocabulario en español e inglés sobre el tema, disfrutarás de esta velada. Para enriquecer perspectivas, contaremos también con la participación de Allan Jenkins, editor del Observer Food Monthly y Nick Lander, editor gastronómico del Financial Times.

The role of the Iberian Peninsula in global gastronomy will be discussed for the first time on Tuesday 29 September, at the London Spanish Film Festival. The documentary Snacks: Bites for a Revolution is a humble video that looks into the lives and works of the Spanish chefs who proved to the world that Spain was the epicentre of culinary creativity.

After the documentary, Enrique Ruiz de Lera, Head of Spain’s Tourism Office in London, will host an open table discussion around the topic of the revolution of Spanish gastronomy, and its influence in the global evolution of cuisine. If you enjoy cooking and gastronomy, or are interested in increasing your range of English and Spanish vocabulary in the field, you may particularly enjoy this event. In order to enrich perspectives, the discussion will be joined by Allan Jenkins, Editor at Observer Food Monthly, and Nick Lander, Gastronomy Editor at Financial Times.

Muchos exiliados españoles llegaron al Reino Unido en la primera mitad del siglo XX. Atrapados entre dos guerras, percibieron su propio traslado como algo temporal, aunque para algunos se convirtiera en permanente.

Este proyecto repasa la contribución intelectual de los que llegaron a este país, y presenta su historia como parte intrínseca de la historia de Gran Bretaña. ¿Sería posible, a día de hoy, concebir la idea del exilio fuera del contexto de condición forzosa? ¿Podría esa reformulación dar pie a una nueva realidad, en la que ciudadanos globales cruzasen fronteras e interactuasen con otras culturas con normalidad?

The Waiting Room, a lo largo de dos meses de música, cine, literatura, documentales, charlas y arte, intenta profundizar en estas cuestiones vitales sobre el exilio, la memoria y la identidad, culminadas en una ciudad tan extraordinaria como Londres.

Spanish exiles arrived in the UK in the first part of the XX century. Trapped between two wars, their presence was a period of transition that, for some, became permanent.

This project serves to introduce a dialogue about the intellectual contribution of those who came to this country, and to present their story as part of the very history of the UK. Would it be possible today to rethink the notion of exile beyond its typical association of being a forced condition? Could that formulation give place to the creation of a new outcome, a global citizen able to transit among borders and cultures?

The Waiting Room, through two months of music, cinema, book, documentary, talks and art, intends to explore these vital questions around exile, memory and identity, highlighted by a city as extraordinary as London.

The Waiting Room is an open and free exhibition, taking place on 27 April through 30 June 2015 in our centre on 102 Eaton Square, London SW1W 9AN.

La 4ª edición del “Fin de semana de primavera” acercará el más reciente cine español a la audiencia londinense. La programación incluirá Vivir es fácil con los ojos cerrados, dirigida por David Trueba y ganadora de la última edición de los Goya, así como 15 años y un día (Gracia Querejeta), Petit indi (Marc Recha), Los ilusos (Jonás Trueba), Harry, un amie qui vous veut du bien (Dominik Moll), La herida (Fernando Franco) y Todas las mujeres (Mariano Barroso). Junto a las últimas producciones de cine español, esta cuarta edición acogerá también la sección Acting Across Frontiers, con la participación del actor Sergi López, que se unirá al programa con una singular entrevista.

Año 1944, posguerra española. Ofelia y su madre, Carmen, que se encuentra en avanzado estado de gestación, se trasladan a un pequeño pueblo al que ha sido destinado el nuevo marido de Carmen, Vidal, un cruel capitán del ejército franquista por el que la niña no siente ningún afecto. La misión de Vidal es acabar con los últimos miembros de la resistencia republicana que permanecen escondidos en los montes de la zona. Reconocido como un clásico contemporáneo, El laberinto del fauno ofrece una brillante reflexión sobre los peligrosos excesos del fascismo y las posibilidades que brinda la imaginación como espacio para la creatividad y la evasión ante las más difíciles circunstancias.

Okwe es un inmigrante ilegal en Londres, un nigeriano que trabaja como chófer de un minitaxi y como recepcionista en un hotel poco respetable. Comparte apartamento con Senay, una orgullosa muchacha que busca refugiados turcos. El delicado equilibrio de su vida se rompe, sin embargo, cuando hace un descubrimiento asombroso en una de las habitaciones del hotel.

Before celebrating the 10th edition of the London Spanish Film Festival in September, we once again bring to London audiences a Spring Weekend from 16 to 18 May with some recent Spanish films including David Trueba’s absolute winner at this year’s Goya awards celebration, Living Is Easy with Eyes Closed, as well as some excellent films from the past year not to be missed: 15 Years and One Day (Gracia Querejeta), Little Indi (Marc Recha), The Wishful Thinkers (Jonás Trueba), With a Friend Like Harry… (Dominik Moll), Wounded (Fernando Franco) and Todas las mujeres (Mariano Barroso). In parallel to this line-up of recent productions, we are happy to host the third instalment of the Acting Across Frontiers section which will look at the work across European frontiers of actor Sergi López, who will join us for a unique on-stage interview.

Pan’s Labyrinth, by Guillermo del Toro

Guillermo del Toro’s magical masterpiece, fusing fairy tale, horror and myth, provides Sergi López with one of his most acclaimed roles. A young girl, Ofelia faces a series of challenges in a post-Civil War Spain landscape where nothing can be taken a face value. Her mother’s remarriage to the sadistic army captain Vidal creates a climate of oppressive fear and surveillance within the family home while in the surrounding forest a series of creatures and fairies offer a different set of challenges. López excels as the ruthless military officer determined to stop at nothing to carry out his mission to root out the enemy within who meets his match in the enterprising, ingenious Ofelia. Now rightly recognised as a contemporary classic.

Dirty Pretty Things, by Stephen Frears

Stephen Frears gritty urban thriller offers a tale of two cities in its focus on the illegal immigrants servicing a smart London hotel where they work silently in the shadows – expendable, underpaid labour. Okwe (Chiwetal Ejiofor), a doctor who has escaped from his native Nigeria, juggles a day job as a taxi driver with night duties as a hotel porter. One evening, a horrifying discovery brings him into conflict with the hotel’s manager, Juan, known as Sneaky (Sergi López) who appears to be using his position to run a number of dangerous illegal operations. Soon Okwe finds that his own safely as well as that of his Turkish co-worker Senay (Audrey Tautou) is in jeopardy, for the smug, smooth-talking Sneaky (one of López’s most infamous creations) knows much more than he initially reveals.
