¿Has participado alguna vez en grupos de debate sobre obras literarias?
Nos gustaría invitarte a participar en el ciclo de otoño del Club Virtual de Lectura del Instituto Cervantes, consistente en la lectura en línea y debate a distancia en torno a destacadas obras de la literatura española e hispanoamericana. La moderación corre a cargo de expertos y de los responsables de las bibliotecas del Instituto Cervantes. No tiene ningún coste para los socios de nuestra biblioteca (el carnet de biblioteca del Instituto Cervantes de Londres incluye el acceso a la biblioteca electrónica y al Club Virtual de Lectura). También es gratuito para quienes prefieren tener el carnet solamente de nuestra biblioteca electrónica.
La proxima lectura sugerida forma parte del ciclo CARA B DE CERVANTES; en esta ocasión leeremos una de las obras de Miguel de Cervantes, «La española inglesa«. La novela transcurre entre Londres, el Mediterráneo y Sevilla en una trama construida a través de conflictos de identidad religiosa, amor y desencuentro.

Have you ever taken part in literary discussion sessions? Hearing out other people’s thoughts about a recent read is a unique opportunity to enrich one’s own perspective about any given title. With that in mind, we would like to invite you to take part in the autumn cycle of Instituto Cervantes’s Virtual Reading Club.
Our club consists of reading proposed titles by renowned Hispanic authors and participating in online discussions thereabout. Both the reading and discussing stages are entirely digital, and moderated by literary experts and Heads of libraries of the Instituto Cervantes centres. The Virtual Reading Club is free of charge for our library members (the Instituto Cervantes London library card includes access to all the items in our library, our global e-library and the Virtual Reading Club). It is also free of charge for those who prefer to join only our e-library for a smaller fee.
The upcoming suggested read is part of the Cara B de Cervantes series: «La española inglesa«, by Miguel de Cervantes. The action develops in London, the Mediterranean and Seville, while the plot tackles religious identity, love and disagreements.

En 2016 se celebra el centenario de la muerte de Rubén Darío, poeta nicaragüense iniciador y máximo exponente del movimiento literario hispanoamericano conocido como modernismo, que floreció a finales del siglo XIX. Darío ha influido notable y largamente en la literatura y el periodismo en lengua española del siglo XX. Fue aclamado como el indiscutido «Príncipe de las Letras Castellanas».
En nuestro Día de Puertas Abiertas, el Instituto Cervantes os propone participar gratuitamente en una lectura de poemas de Rubén en nuestro auditorio. Previamente, a las 14:ooh, habrá una clase preparatoria de dicción y entonación por parte del actor español Jorge de Juan, quien cerrará también la lectura pública. Los interesados, hablantes de español como lengua extranjera, podéis inscribiros enviando un correo electrónico a cultlon1@cervantes.es, y pasar a recoger en la biblioteca un poema o fragmento para leer tras recibir confirmación. ¡Plazas limitadas!
Para asistir como público, simplemente confirma tu asistencia y ven a disfrutar del rico mundo de las palabras de Rubén Darío.
Finalizaremos el acto con una recepción ofrecida por la Embajada de Nicaragua.
Una colaboración entre la Embajada de Nicaragua en el Reino Unido y el Instituto Cervantes para celebrar el centenario de la muerte de Rubén Darío.

2016 marks the centenary of Ruben Dario’s death. Dario, a Nicaraguan poet who initiated and was the most outstanding example of the Latin American literary movement emerged in late sXIX known as modernism. Ruben Dario largely influenced Spanish literature and journalism throughout sXX. He was praised as the undisputed «prince of Castilian literature» at the time.
Within the context of Instituto Cervantes London’s Open Day this coming 18 June, we would like to invite you to join us in reading Ruben Dario’s poems at our Auditorium free of charge. The reading will be preceded by a masterclass in diction and intonation, held by Spanish renowned actor and director Jorge de Juan. De Juan will also be in charge of closing the reading.
Interested? If you are a speaker of Spanish as a foreign language, you can sign up for the reading activity by emailing cultlon1@cervantes.es and come by our library to collect your poem or excerpt to read once you have received confirmation. Hurry up, availability is very limited!

XX LECTURA CONTINUADA DE EL QUIJOTE – XX CHAIN-READING OF DON QUIXOTE
Este año el Instituto Cervantes de Londres participa mediante videoconferencia en la XX Lectura continuada de El Quijote que organiza el Círculo de Bellas Artes de Madrid.
La Lectura se iniciará a las 18:00 h del viernes 22 y finalizará en torno a las 14:00 h del domingo 24. La inauguración del acto correrá a cargo de Fernando del Paso, Premio Cervantes 2015. Participarán también personalidades relevantes del mundo de la política y la cultura.

In only a few days, the Instituto Cervantes London are taking part in the XX chain-reading of Don Quixote, an initiative organised by Madrid’s Circle of Fine Arts via videoconferencing.
The reading will commence at 6pm on Friday 22 April and will go on until approximately 2pm on Sunday 24 April. Fernando del Paso, Premio Cervantes 2015, will open the event, which will see the participation of prominent personalities in culture and politics.

¿Cómo construir una vida por medio de una película? ¿Cómo influyó el sistema de valores de la Residencia de Estudiantes de Madrid -donde vivieran Luis Buñuel, Federico García Lorca y Salvador Dalí a principios de la década de 1920- en el trabajo de los tres artistas? Para sellar la temporada cinematográfica del ICA «Luis Buñuel: estética de lo irracional», reunimos a un grupo de expertos en cultura con el fin de analizar la relación particular de Lorca, Buñuel y Dalí, y la forma de la que artistas y directores de cine han intentado captar tanto la estética revolucionaria de los tres artistas como su valiosísimo legado cultural.
El actor Nickolas Grace (quien diera vida a Lorca en el largometraje de Bardem en 1995, «Lorca, muerte de un poeta»), los directores Mike Dibb (El espíritu de Lorca, BBC Arena 1986; La fama y humillación de de Salvador Dalí, BBC Arena 1996) y Pablo Romero (Universidad de Roahampton, actualmente inmerso en un nuevo proyecto sobre Las Hurdes de Buñuel junto con Dibb), y la académica y traductora Sarah Wright (Royal Holloway, University of London), se reúnen con María Delgado (Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, University of London) para hablar de la cultura, biografía y legado de Buñuel, Dalí y Lorca.

What does it mean to construct a life through film? How did the unique ethos of Madrid’s Residencia de Estudiantes where Luis Buñuel, Federico García Lorca and Salvador Dalí all lived during the early 1920s influence the creative work of all three artists? To mark the ICA’s ‘Luis Buñuel: Aesthetics of the Irrational’ film season, this panel brings together a group of different cultural critics to examine the unique relationships between Lorca, Buñuel and Dalí, and the ways in which artists and filmmakers have sought to ‘capture’ both the ground-breaking aesthetics of the three artists and their unique cultural legacy.
Actor Nickolas Grace (who played Lorca in Bardem’s 1995 film Lorca, muerte de un poeta), filmmakers Mike Dibb (The Spirit of Lorca, BBC Arena 1986; The Fame and Shame of Salvador Dalí, BBC Arena 1996) and Pablo Romero (University of Roehampton, currently working on a new film on Buñuel’s Las Hurdes with Dibb), and academic and translator Sarah Wright (Royal Holloway, University of London) join Maria Delgado (Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, University of London) to discuss the culture, biography and legacy of Buñuel, Dalí and Lorca.

Hay-On-Way Festival 2015 en el Instituto Cervantes de Londres: Roberto Ampuero y «El caso Neruda» – Hay-On-Way Festival 2015 at Instituto Cervantes London: Roberto Ampuero and The Neruda Case
El prestigioso autor chileno Roberto Ampuero nos visitará el próximo martes 26 de mayo para presentar su último trabjao, «El caso Neruda», que acaba de ser traducido al inglés. Ampuero también nos hablará sobre su carrera y las vivencias que han inspirado su trabajo.
Nacido en Valparaíso, Roberto Ampuero ha publicado varios best sellers, entre ellos «Pasiones griegas», elegido en China como el mejor libro escrito en español en 2006; «Los amantes de Estocolmo», libro del año en Chile en 2003, y la pieza de ficción autobiográfica «Nuestros años verde olivo», aclamada por el Nobel de Literatura Mario Vargas Llosa.
A Roberto se le conoce por su personaje, el detective privado Cayetano Brulé, que aparece en las novelas «Cita en el azul profundo» (2004) y «Halcones de la noche» (2005). Ha habido un nuevo título que se ha añadido a esta colección con posterioridad, rompiendo el orden cronológico de los eventos en la vida del detective: «El caso Neruda» (2008), publicada recientemente en inglés por Souvenir Press (2012).
El último trabajo de Ampuero es «Detrás del muro» (2014), que trata sobre su exilio en la República Democrática Alemana (GDR). Su trabajo se desarrolla en Latinoamérica y España, y varias traducciones han sido publicadas en Croacia, China, Francia, Italia, Grecia, Portugal, y ahora el Reino Unido. El autor ha vivido en Chile, Cuba, la ex-GDR, actualmente unificada Alemania, Suecia, Estados Unidos -donde fue profesor en la Universidad de Iowa- y México, donde ejerció el cargo de embajador de Chile.
La presentación de «El caso Neruda», que se realizará en inglés, ha sido organizada por la embajada de Chile en el Reino Unido. Tendrá lugar en nuestro salón de actos el martes 26 de mayo a las 18:30h. The acclaimed Chilean writer Roberto Ampuero will come by on Tuesday 26 May, to present his latest book The Neruda Case, which has just recently been translated into English. Ampuero will also talk about his career and the experiences that have proved an inspiration to his work.
Born in Valaparaíso, Roberto Ampuero has published a series of best sellers, amongst them Greek Passions, voted by the Chinese in 2006 as the best novel written in Spanish; Stockholm Lovers, book of the year in Chile in 2003, and the autobiographical fiction Our Olive Green Years, praised by Nobel Prize winner Mario Vargas Llosa. He is famous for his character, private detective Cayetano Brulé, who appeared in the novels Date in the Deep Blue (2004) and Night Hawkes (2005). Another exceptional novel was incorporated to this series, thus breaking the chronological order in the life of the detective: The Neruda Case (2008), recently published in English by Souvenir Press (2012).
Ampuero’s latest book is Behind the Wall (2014), which talks about his exile in the German Democratic Republic (GDR). His work circulates in the whole of Latin America and Spain, and several translations have been published in Croatia, China, France, Italy, Greece, Portugal and now The United Kingdom. The author has lived in Chile, Cuba, the ex-GDR, currently unified Germany , Sweden, the United States, where he taught at Iowa University, and Mexico, where he was the Chilean ambassador.
The presentation of The Neruda Case, which will be held in English, has been organised by the Embassy of Chile in the United Kingdom. It will take place on Tuesday 26 May at 6:30pm at our premises.
