Se abordarán temas diferentes en cada sesión, según los intereses de los participantes.

We are back! What are you waiting for? Come practise your Spanish!
Sessions are open to anyone in London looking to improve their Spanish speaking skills with native speakers, in real life situations.
The topics covered in each session will vary and adapt to the attendants’ interests.

Sessions take place twice a month, at either of two locations:

Se acerca agosto y, en breve, el horario de biblioteca podría verse afectado. Sin embargo, la plataforma de préstamo de materiales-e seguirá activa 24 horas al día, 7 días a la semana, y el tiempo de préstamo de materiales físicos no se reducirá a lo largo de todo el mes.

Si decides matricularte en uno de los últimos cursos intensivos de español de este verano, o en uno de los que acaban de comenzar y duran hasta finales de septiembre, tenemos buenas noticias; acabamos de recibir muchísimas películas españolas en DVD, no disponibles en ningún otro formato, con las que disfrutarás muchísimo, practicarás tu comprensión oral y descubrirás nuevos acentos, expresiones y culturas con las que enriquecer tu español.

Abajo tienes una muestra, pero puedes consultar todo el nuevo material que hemos incorporado a la biblioteca en el tablero «Novedades Biblioteca» en nuestra cuenta en Pinterest. Si te gusta lo que ves, podemos proponerte un plan intensivo de películas en español en agosto.

August is around the corner, and our library opening times could be affected shortly. Regardless, our e-lending service will keep open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and the lending period of all physical materials will not be shortened during this time either.

If you decide to enrol in either one of the last intensive courses available this summer, or one of the ones that just started and last until late September, we have some good news; we just received a whole lot of Spanish movies in DVD, at present unavailable in any other format. You will get to laugh/cry along, brush up on your listening skills and hear new accents, expressions and cultures that will contribute to enriching all aspects of your Spanish.

El Día E, la fiesta de todos los que hablamos español (este año celebrada el sábado 20 de junio), ha unido a todos los centros Cervantes del mundo en la labor de dar a conocer la belleza del idioma español y demostrar el crecimiento personal y profesional que acarrea su dominio. The Día E, celebration day for all those who speak Spanish, took place on 20 June this year. Instituto Cervantes centres of the world came together to show the beauty of the Spanish language and give first-hand evidence of the personal and professional development that learning Spanish entails. We celebrated with discounts and draws, live performances, free Spanish level tests and much fun. Here is a video-summary of Día E at our London centre:

El prestigioso autor chileno Roberto Ampuero nos visitará el próximo martes 26 de mayo para presentar su último trabjao, «El caso Neruda», que acaba de ser traducido al inglés. Ampuero también nos hablará sobre su carrera y las vivencias que han inspirado su trabajo.

Nacido en Valparaíso, Roberto Ampuero ha publicado varios best sellers, entre ellos «Pasiones griegas», elegido en China como el mejor libro escrito en español en 2006; «Los amantes de Estocolmo», libro del año en Chile en 2003, y la pieza de ficción autobiográfica «Nuestros años verde olivo», aclamada por el Nobel de Literatura Mario Vargas Llosa.
A Roberto se le conoce por su personaje, el detective privado Cayetano Brulé, que aparece en las novelas «Cita en el azul profundo» (2004) y «Halcones de la noche» (2005). Ha habido un nuevo título que se ha añadido a esta colección con posterioridad, rompiendo el orden cronológico de los eventos en la vida del detective: «El caso Neruda» (2008), publicada recientemente en inglés por Souvenir Press (2012).
El último trabajo de Ampuero es «Detrás del muro» (2014), que trata sobre su exilio en la República Democrática Alemana (GDR). Su trabajo se desarrolla en Latinoamérica y España, y varias traducciones han sido publicadas en Croacia, China, Francia, Italia, Grecia, Portugal, y ahora el Reino Unido. El autor ha vivido en Chile, Cuba, la ex-GDR, actualmente unificada Alemania, Suecia, Estados Unidos -donde fue profesor en la Universidad de Iowa- y México, donde ejerció el cargo de embajador de Chile.
La presentación de «El caso Neruda», que se realizará en inglés, ha sido organizada por la embajada de Chile en el Reino Unido. Tendrá lugar en nuestro salón de actos el martes 26 de mayo a las 18:30h. The acclaimed Chilean writer Roberto Ampuero will come by on Tuesday 26 May, to present his latest book The Neruda Case, which has just recently been translated into English. Ampuero will also talk about his career and the experiences that have proved an inspiration to his work.
Born in Valaparaíso, Roberto Ampuero has published a series of best sellers, amongst them Greek Passions, voted by the Chinese in 2006 as the best novel written in Spanish; Stockholm Lovers, book of the year in Chile in 2003, and the autobiographical fiction Our Olive Green Years, praised by Nobel Prize winner Mario Vargas Llosa. He is famous for his character, private detective Cayetano Brulé, who appeared in the novels Date in the Deep Blue (2004) and Night Hawkes (2005). Another exceptional novel was incorporated to this series, thus breaking the chronological order in the life of the detective: The Neruda Case (2008), recently published in English by Souvenir Press (2012).
Ampuero’s latest book is Behind the Wall (2014), which talks about his exile in the German Democratic Republic (GDR). His work circulates in the whole of Latin America and Spain, and several translations have been published in Croatia, China, France, Italy, Greece, Portugal and now The United Kingdom. The author has lived in Chile, Cuba, the ex-GDR, currently unified Germany , Sweden, the United States, where he taught at Iowa University, and Mexico, where he was the Chilean ambassador.
The presentation of The Neruda Case, which will be held in English, has been organised by the Embassy of Chile in the United Kingdom. It will take place on Tuesday 26 May at 6:30pm at our premises. El 23 de abril es la fecha que la UNESCO, a propuesta de la Federación del Gremio de Editores de España, estableció como “Día Mundial del Libro y del Derecho de Autor” por coincidir con el aniversario de la muerte, en 1616, de Miguel de Cervantes, William Shakespeare y el Inca Garcilaso de la Vega. En España la celebración del Día del Libro es una tradición y una fiesta de la Cultura en la que tiene lugar la entrega anual del Premio Cervantes.

Launched in 1995 to promote reading, publishing and copyright, World Book and Copyright Day will, once again, take place on 23 April. With the help of the Federation of Publishers’ Guild of Spain, UNESCO established this day to coincide with the anniversary of the deaths of Miguel de Cervantes, William Shakespeare and Inca Garcilaso de la Vega. In Spain, celebrating World Book Day has become a tradition, and this year’s celebration will see the beloved annual presentation of the Miguel de Cervantes prize.

«BLUES DE TRAFALGAR», CUANDO LA VIDA ES UN BLUES

La diferencia entre una buena novela y una buena novela que está inspirada en hechos reales es que, en el caso de la segunda, el lector escucha a los protagonistas de carne y hueso detrás. Pasar páginas es un viaje para comprender lo vivido, encontrar la propia historia entre líneas, y reconocer en la realidad los lugares presentados, donde el libro se convierte en película y la historia cobra un valor añadido.

Blues de Trafalgar, de José Luis Rodríguez del Corral, es una de esas novelas: inspirada en hechos reales y ganadora del Premio Café Gijón 2011, se la define como apasionante y desoladora a partes iguales. Una historia humana llena de dilemas, que dibuja una cadena de acciones y consecuencias absorbente hasta la última página.

El viernes 5 de diciembre os invitamos a nuestro Grupo de Lectura, en una sesión de debate que promete ser especialmente interesante debido a la cercanía geográfica a los hechos relatados, y la realidad documentada detrás de lo ocurrido en la novela de Rodríguez del Corral.

«BLUES DE TRAFALGAR», WHEN LIFE IS A BLUES

The difference between a good novel and a good novel which is based on true facts is that, in the latter, the reader listens to the real people behind the story.

Page after page, such novel is a journey of understanding, looking for one’s own stories between lines and recognising the scenarios from the novel in real life spaces, where the story becomes a movie, and it is experienced again.

Blues de Trafalgar, by José Luis Rodríguez del Corral, based on true facts and awarded the Premio Café Gijón in 2011, is one of those books. It is perceived every bit as thrilling as it is devastating. A human story of dilemmas with a chain of actions and consequences, enthralling through to the end.

On Friday 5 December you are invited to join our Reading Group and take part in an exciting debate session, especially interesting given the geographical proximity to the action in Rodrígez del Corral’s novel, as well as the documented reality behind it.
