Como parte de la actividad ofertada para el Día de Muertos el próximo 28 de octubre, la Biblioteca del Instituto Cervantes te invita a pasar una jornada llena de diversión en el taller de manualidades. Vive el Día de Muertos al máximo haciendo mini ofrendas y flores típicas de esta celebración. ¡Pásate por la biblioteca de 11:30 a 12:30!

Además, después de la actividad, se proyectarán cortometrajes infantiles de producción mexicana y tendrás la oportunidad de visitar un verdadero altar de Día de Muertos en nuestro Instituto ¿Te lo vas a perder?

Beleef de Dag van de Doden ten volle door mini ofrendas en bloemen te maken die typisch zijn voor deze viering. Kom naar de bibliotheek van 11:30 tot 12:30!

Bovendien is er na de activiteit een vertoning van korte Mexicaanse kinderfilms en krijg je de kans om een echt altaar voor Día de los Muertos in ons instituut te bezoeken. Dat wil je toch niet missen?

«Orquesta de risas»

Dentro de nuestras actividades infantiles de la biblioteca, un sábado al mes a las 11:30 en la sala infantil el violinista Albert Barrachina te invita a su taller musical.

No solo podrás divertirte jugando y tocando los distintos instrumentos que en esta orquesta de risas tan divertida se enseñan, sino que también tendrás la oportunidad de aprender la historia y funcionamiento de cada instrumento a través del juego y de la mano de un experto en música.

¿Te gustaría formar parte de esta alegre orquesta de música? ¿Quieres bailar, cantar y tocar instrumentos? ¡Únete a la orquesta de risas del violinista Albert Barrachina! ¡Te esperamos el 11 de noviembre y el 2 de diciembre a partir de las 11:30 en la biblioteca.

«Orkest van de lach».

Als onderdeel van onze jeugdactiviteiten in de bibliotheek nodigt de violist Albert Barrachina je één zaterdag per maand om 11:30 uur in de kinderkamer uit voor zijn muzikale workshop.

Niet alleen kun je plezier beleven aan het spelen en bespelen van de verschillende instrumenten die in dit leuke orkest van de lach aan bod komen, maar je krijgt ook de kans om de geschiedenis en de werking van elk instrument spelenderwijs te leren uit de hand van een muziekexpert.

Wil je deel uitmaken van dit vrolijke muziekorkest? Wil je dansen, zingen en instrumenten bespelen? Sluit je aan bij het orkest van de lach van violist Albert Barrachina! We zien je graag op 11 november en 2 december vanaf 11:30 uur in de bibliotheek.

Sound and Emotion in Urban Ritual in Early Modern Spain
This paper considers how the historian might go beyond the study of urban ritual as representational to assess its impact on participants and spectators through analysis of the social and cultural processes that lay behind that experience, and of the perceptual discourses that gave it meaning and significance for all those present. It takes as a starting-point three basic premises: first, that urban processions were quintessentially performative acts with a dynamic fluidity that generated multiple simultaneous meanings and possible interpretations through their diverse sensory elements and the spaces through which they passed. Edward Muir describes how the senses were stimulated ‘through musical performances, artistic splendour and sumptuous display’ to make processions more attractive and memorable for the populace (Muir 2005 [1997]: 254), yet the contribution of sound, and specifically music, to that impact has been little analysed. Second, that in attempting to interrogate the experience of urban ritual in the past, a combined approach to historical contextualisation of the senses and of the emotions is desirable, as recently advocated by Rob Boddice and Mark Smith with regard to historical experience in general, which, in their words: ‘was constructed out of situated feelings, admixtures of situated historical affective categories that do not make sense considered simply as “emotion” or “sense” (Boddice & Smith 2020: 1). Third, that in terms of situating the performative experience of historical processions, I suggest it might be useful to bring together the notion of acoustic communities from Sound Studies with that of emotional communities from History of Emotions. Brief case studies of different types of processions held in early modern Spain with be considered from these perspectives.

Tess Knighton
Prof. dr. Tess Knighton is an ICREA Research Professor affiliated to the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, and an Emeritus Fellow of Clare College, Cambridge. She is also founder and co-editor (with Helen Deeming) of the Studies in Medieval and Renaissance Music series for The Boydell Press (from 2003). Since her doctoral thesis on music and musicians at the court of Ferdinand of Aragon (1984), she has focused her research on the music and culture of late medieval and early modern Spain, and has published widely in that area. Recent publications include Companion to Music in the Time of the Catholic Monarchs (Brill, 2017) and, with Kenneth Kreitner, The Music of Juan de Anchieta (Routledge, 2021). Since she moved to Barcelona in 2011, she has carried out new archival research relating to daily musical life in the urban context, and co-edited (with Ascensión Mazuela-Anguita) the collection of essays entitled Hearing the City in Early Modern Europe (Brepols, 2018). She is currently PI of an ERC Advanced Grant project (ERC-2021-ADG, no.101054069) entitled: How Processions Moved: Sound and Space in the Performance of Urban Ritual, c.1400-c.1700.

El Instituto Cervantes tiene el placer de presentar en los Países Bajos el proyecto “Flamenco Queer”, con sendas actuaciones los días 6 y 7 de julio, en Róterdam y Ámsterdam, respectivamente. Para esta minigira, el dúo de artistas contará con la colaboración especial de la cantaora Soleá Gollás.

Con motivo de la primera exposición individual en la galería Joey Ramone (Róterdam) de la artista afincada en La Haya Anna Moreno (Barcelona, 1984), «Flamenco Queer» desarrollará su espectáculo en este marco expositivo donde concurrirán ambos proyectos artísticos.

Azúcar pa’ tu cuerpa es un espectáculo dinámico y estéticamente único, que destaca y busca la representación interseccional entre los artistas, con el objetivo de dar visibilidad a la presencia y aportación queer en todos los aspectos de la cultura flamenca, tanto actual como histórica.

“Flamenco Queer” nació en 2019 fruto de la unión del bailaor de Badalona Rubén Heras y el guitarrista londinense Jero Férec y propone un arte disidente del género, en el que no caben los prejuicios respetando a la vez la esencia del flamenco. En este sentido, su proyecto parte de un flamenco tradicional, que reivindica la inclusividad, tomando como punto de referencia artístico y creativo la herencia de la comunidad queer, travesti y flamenca de los barrios del Raval y Poble-Sec, en Barcelona, a principios del siglo XX.

Por otro lado, la exposición Costa paraíso de Anna Moreno pretende reconsiderar la arquitectura del ocio desde los estereotipos de especulación inmobiliaria desordenada hasta el ámbito donde la arquitectura utópica encontró una posibilidad tangible; una arquitectura que miraba a la utopía a través del progreso tecnológico (en lugar del social), fuertemente influenciada por la ingeniería. Moreno introduce la tesis de que la arquitectura utópica de los años 70 podría haber fracasado en su intento de revolucionar nuestras ciudades, sin embargo, sus sistemas dieron paso más tarde a la arquitectura del entretenimiento y el ocio. La exposición se inauguró el sábado 15 de abril y estará abierta hasta el 8 de julio de 2023 de 17.00 a 20.00 horas.

Azúcar pa’ tu cuerpa

Met groot genoegen presenteert het Instituto Cervantes u het project «Flamenco Queer» in Nederland, met uitvoeringen op 6 en 7 juli – respectievelijk – in Rotterdam en Amsterdam. Voor deze mini-tour krijgt het artiestenduo de bijzondere medewerking van de zangeres Soleá Gollás.

«Flamenco Queer» ontstond in 2019 uit de vereniging van de Badalona-danser Rubén Heras en de Londense gitarist Jero Férec. Het stelt een eigenzinnige kunst van het genre voor, waarin geen plaats is voor vooroordelen en er respect is voor de essentie van de flamenco. In die zin is hun project gebaseerd op de traditionele flamenco, die inclusiviteit claimt, met als artistiek en creatief referentiepunt het erfgoed van de queer-, travestieten- en flamencogemeenschap van de wijken Raval en Poble-Sec in Barcelona aan het begin van de 20e eeuw.

Azúcar pa’ tu cuerpa is een dynamische en esthetisch unieke show, die de nadruk legt op en zoekt naar intersectionele representatie van artiesten, met als doel zichtbaarheid te geven aan de aanwezigheid en bijdrage van de queergemeenschap in alle aspecten van de flamenco-cultuur, zowel vandaag de dag als vroeger.
